Smile Golf Cart World Record

Some time ago I remember that the villages was going to try and set a new world record for the number of golf carts together at one time. What ever happened ? Was there a record set? Just curious , Thanks

From post #34 in that thread from EdVinMass: "Looks like yesterday’s attempt to break the previous record of 3,321 came up short at 3,124 golf carts. But good money for a good cause."

Hope that helps!!

True, the attempt didn't break our own record. :-(

I have lots of personal reasons as to why. The important thing to remember, I think, is that we raised a whole lot of money for a worhy cause.

Having participated in both challenges to the Guiness record, I am hoping that the next challenge will be better organized and will easily end in a new record!

I know there were several who were going to attend until it became a fee thing (whether for a worthwhile cause or not). Guess the previous record was free (didn't have a golf cart then, so wasn't involved).

Also, do it when snowbirds are here and the record would be smashed.

We were in the previous cart parade and I believe there was a fee but can't remember what it was for. As an aside we were assembled in a field off of 466 where they are presently building new homes. I thought that was very dangerous as the carts were lined up bumper to bumper and the carts on either side were very close. Fortunately nothing untoward happened but I could imagine the panic if a cart caught on fire while parked in the field. I don't think anyone gave safety a thought when they decided to park the carts so close together.

We were at the school grounds and lined up about 8 rows across and I don't know how many deep. Lots of time spent waiting. We never did get an official count from the people putting this on. When we finished the parade and were on the way out we were told they did it and then lots of conflicting reports so guess we didn't make the record. Very long day and lots of waiting.

Default We are in LUCK. There is a golf cart parade being planned.

A wonderful group of people, most from TOTV are organizing another one for the American Cancer Society RIGHT NOW. It will benefit Relay for Life if I remember correctly. I am not sure how that works but someone will tell me...

I guess it will benefit The American Cancer Society.

F16 or Whalen will tell us all about it.

Gracie, do you think there is a way this parade will happen without sharing the proceeds with Moffett? I can't imagine that happening and, from what I understand of ACS's policies, they won't share. Doesn't sound feasible.

However, if Relay for Life can figure out a way to do this without having to share, I'd definitely want to attend. Here's hoping!

I dunno RedWitch...Perhaps it is for the benefit of Relay for Life OUTSIDE of our villages limits.

F16 or Whalen will tell us.

Just want to let you know that F16 and Whalen have no idea what you are talking about. We have no information about this event.

The only event we are currently aware of is the Poker Run our team, Friends for a Cure, is sponsoring next Saturday January 15th (See F16's thread for all the information).

As it stands now a Villages Relay is still scheduled for April 29 & 30. It will NOT be held on Village property.
We will post further details when we have solid information.

There is lot of false information out there regarding Relay for Life and we think it would be a good idea if you got all the facts before you post guesses and assumptions.

We would like to clarify the ACS's position on not sharing the proceeds of the Relay with other charities.
It is not that they are unwilling to share, they are unable to share.
People who donate to Relay have to be secure knowing the money they give to Relay goes to the ACS, not another charity.
Also, as a charitable organization the ACS must adhere to strict guidelines which govern what they can and cannot do as a charity.

Frankly, I can't imagine that the ACS would either be willing or able to share -- it would set bad policy and create too many problems and issues. Right now, I am so turned off by the Moffitt "contributions" that if I see something will give a portion of its proceeds to Moffitt, I won't go. It's killing me at times since I really would have loved to see the Lipizzaners and maybe even A Chorus Line, but I won't out of sheer principle. So long as we are forced to contribute whether we believe it is the right or best thing or, worse yet, forced to share our contributions for something we truly believe in to give to something we have serious doubts about, I won't contribute. So, I'll miss out on events I know I would have enjoyed, send my contributions directly to those charities I believe in and not help a for-profit medical institution get new medical equipment at my expense.
