Regarding the home insurance situation, I’ve been looking at other insurance for our home and getting ridiculous supposedly competitive quotes of over $10,000. And I am right here, NOT in the coast. I was also told that some insurance companies have already reached their quota for Lake/Sumter counties and they’ll try again in January and see if something has changed. The insurance situation in Florida has truly gone crazy.

Wow. In a way, I hope it goes to $10K, which means that I will be paying nothing.

Has anyone gotten a quote for a fire policy instead of a homeowners policy? A fire policy will cover the house if it burns down but none of the other homeowners risks.

I have never heard of either of these with any other companies and I can't imagine granting some company power of attorney over any aspect of my life.

Southern Oaks Insurance....Home - Southern Oak Insurance

I saved a ton with them. Went through Nsure.com

Not many houses burn down in TV. I can think of two in my fifteen years. Maybe I missed a few others. However, lots of other claims such as straight winds, tornado and water. I wouldn’t recommend. But to each his own.

I Agee with you , mine just went up $130 , so I’m at about $1,130.00, someone said $10, 000 , yikes if it ever comes to that in central fl ,the last homeowner leaving Florida should turn out the lights

Since I have no mortgage I found out I can get the home owners policy without wind coverage. The house will be protected in case or fire, theft, lightning and all liabilities stay the same. Got my $7200 quote down to $1100. Anyone here with no wind coverage experience?

See last post.

Wind is the biggest risk in Florida. If a window breaks or roof comes off your house in a storm you will have water damage. At that point you may need to gut the house. Risk reward not worth it.

Frontline and State Farm were reasonable last month

I just received a $1200 increase from Progressive. Up to $3200. If I drop non-catastrophic sink hole and change Hurricane from $500 deductible to 2% it drops to $2750. Tower Hill for the adjusted coverage is $2050. These companies are all over the place! Getting more quotes next week. Seems some that raise existing customers, ie:Tower Hill in above post, will come in low to new customers. I guess this is now just like Medicare Supplements, review every year and change if necessary.

I just renewed my policy with Progressive for $880, which is a 6 percent increase from last year. I have sinkhole coverage, $500 hurricane deductible, and $500K liability coverage on a courtyard villa. Go figure.

Been with Progressive long term also. Got a new roof with insurance in 2020.
2021=$1500 / 2022=$2050 /Renewal in 2023 $3200. Currently shopping. Don’t know what your coverage is but ride the wave. All these companies are all over the place with pricing.

I had a Allstate subsidary. With no claims they hit me with a hugh increase? After spending 3 days of calling home insurance companies for quotes I decided to go with Farmers Homeowners Insurance. Very happy with my choice.
