Default Hot Temperatures

How are people coping in TV with the high temperatures or are these temps normal for Florida? I'm a snowbird in the northeast and our temps have been cool. I have never been in Florida during the summer. Also, do your air conditioners run constantly?

I LOVE the heat... too hot is like too much money. Drink lotsa water and enjoy the many, many pools. It's in the 70's in the morning so get your jog or doggie walk in then. Yea, your AC will run constantly for a few months. But for 9 month it's open windows and Southern breezes blowing thru your bedroom. I wouldn't trade tropical weather for ANYTHING. PS.... it usually is never THIS hot. Low 90'w for 3 mos is typically max. This past week was a fluke.

MOM! I thought you passed in '63?

Seriously, 15 days of rain out of 23 is quite un-good. We purposly did our lifestyle visits in Aug just to test us out. We loved it. We are in the N.E. also. Not for long, we pray.

1st off... your A/C shouldn't run constantly. If it is, there is something wrong with it and you should have it checked or else you have your temps set way too low. It shouldn't run any more than heating systems run in the winter in the north. It does get warm in the afternoon so you plan on doing outsude work in the morning or evening. Do you shopping or movies or other indoor stuff in the afternoon... and there is always the pool.

I hear what you are saying but it is never 90's temp with 90% or greater humidity. That would put the dew point at 87 and that would be a record.

A more typical dew point for a very hot day is around 77.

Don't get me wrong - that's oppressive enough.

I haven't been in TV during the summer long enough to know what is typical. However, having been here for the last 4 weeks, up until this past Saturday I was saying this is really nice. Yes, it was a bit warm during the day, but nothing oppressive and the humidity levels seemed quite low. Mornings and evenings were truly great. I was extremely happy with the climate down here.

Then Saturday hit. I must admit that for the last few days I found it very uncomfortable to be outside. Perhaps my newbie, Northeast wimp factor is showing, but I refused to go to Home Depot to buy some small palms, etc, for our lanai. Just the thought of lifting them and bags of potting soil into and out of the car and then potting them was too much. Even the evenings remained hot and muggy. I went out onto the lanai at 11:30 PM and it felt very uncomfortable.

On the encouraging side, apparently this weather is not the norm since it has been a fairly major topic on the local TV channels. I'm hoping that we revert to the weather of the previous several weeks. I do get a chuckle out of the weather forecasts down here, though. When they speak of cold fronts moving in, they mean low 90's!

Here are the high temps for the last five days recorded by Leesburg. Note that the dew points shown are the actual readings at the time of the high temp.

Date Temp Dew Pt Heat Index (Feels Like)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
6/19 91 75 102
6/20 96 74 107
6/21 97 72 106
6/22 100 69 107
6/23 96 73 106

That feels pretty oppressive to me and I’m not even down there. But just for comparison, here are the highs for the last five years on June 22

2008 89 68 93
2007 93 60 93
2006 93 65 95
2005 89 68 93
2004 93 72 101

That seems about right Ed. Dew points in the 70's as you indicate are considered oppressive.

As you know the Heat Index is not the dew point but has components of temp and humidity similar to the dew point but is calculated for the effect on the human body. Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_index

Hot is Hot!

We were in TV last week while it got hotter each day. Early in the week, the afternoon showers cooled the air nicely. While it was hotter than normal for this time of year, we still did exactly what we had planned - played golf (three days, once in the afternoon), worked in the yard in the mornings, went to the pool, went to the squares and danced, went shopping, rode around in the golf cart, played with the grandkids, and sat on the lanai each morning and evening (northeast facing, so it is shaded in the pm). Sure it was hot and we would sweat (perspire for those that prefer) a lot, especially when in the direct sun. When our visit concluded on Sunday, we flew back to Oklahoma, where it is even HOTTER! Can't wait to get back to the cooler FL. climate!

Today is the most comfortable day in a couple of weeks. It is 4:00 PM which can be the heat of the day and it is 93 with 41% humidity. I checked Indianapolis and it is hotter and more humid.

I played 9 holes and started at 1:00 PM at Cane Garden as a walk on. Played in 1 hour 45 minutes as no one was in front of me and was by myself. Yes it was hot but much better than it has been.

I look forward to coping with hot temps in TV in the summer. I'm trading it for -40 in January in northern New York. No more snow? Oh, yeah. I'll be hot for awhile.

Smile Help me understand the problem...

Help me understand the problem...we left sunny, warm FL and got back here to Connecticut 18 days ago. In those 18 days we have had 1 sunny day, 3 days with no rain but cool; rfain every other day and cold.

Went to an outdoor graduation Monday in long pants and sweaters and were cold. Little league games in blankets.

I'll trade for sunny & hot!!!!!! :laugh

Be there soon...closing in Bonita July 10th
