I would not be happy with my sales agent. He/she "screwed up" and there is no other way to put it. If the Agent is relatively new, I could see how this could be missed because most Villages allow two dogs. However, you should not be in this position.
Options at this point are few. Given the situation you can probably get out of the contract and move on to another house. If you really want the house, then I would close and tackle the issue with an attorney should there be an unlikely attempt to enforce the deed restrictions. If you have not already sat down and talked to your Sales Agent, I would do that immediately. He/she may want to bring the sales manager into the conversation. This should be done prior to closing. I live in the Historic District and I can tell you that there are plenty of people here with more than one dog. I see one guy, almost daily, who walks his three small dogs. We had neighbors before we moved that had two dogs.
Unless this is something new, I think that it must be a misprint. I'd call your agent and ask about it.

It has already been verified that TV does not enforce this. It is considered something going on inside your home and they can't. There was a thread on this quite some time back, and I called and verified.

I know a couple folks in TV who own multiple dogs and no one has complained. Just be sure to not be out of compliance with the restrictions on landscaping and yard ornaments. No pink flamingos although they certainly are a long standing Florida tradition!

I was told by a Villages sales agent that the deed restriction exists to prevent breeding dogs. Makes sense.
