Other than price, what are the major differences between a cottage home and a designer home? For example, the Sun Kissed (cottage home) and the Bougainvillea (designer) have the same floorplan. The only differences I can see are that the designer home has rocker electrical switches, molding on the cabinets and (maybe??) upgraded appliances? Or am I overlooking something else? Seems like a big price difference for these few things.

Here are a few things that I have noticed - The doors, trim, light fixtures and faucets are a better quality in the Designer Homes. There are no fans installed in the Cottages. You also can have the option of tile floors and different countertops and cabinets in the Designers as well as upgraded appliances.

You need to walk through both of them to actually see the differences for yourself.

We just moved from a Ranch home (now called Cottages) last November, to a Gardenia Designer home and I totally concur with lj410 who posted here. Lots of upgrades and you can get Block and Stucco and you get a lot more room...usually...although the guest room and den in our new Designer are both smaller than in our former Amarillo (now called Sun Kissed). However...we still LOVE our new home. Also, the landscaping is upgraded.

I looked at ranch houses (now cottages) and designer homes when I decided to build in 2001. You paid more money for designers and you got additional upgrades but nothing I could not live without.

I settled on the Amarillo (Sun Kissed) and am completely satisfied with the quality and the features that came with it. Of course since it was 2001, I did add several upgrades and boosted the appliances up two levels.

It is all a matter of how much you want to pay for the house.
