Default Moving to TV Before We Buy

Next week we are putting our house on the market. We want to move to the TV. On our April visit, I couldn't make up my mind between two models.

When we sell our house (going through TV Relocation Office) and move to TV, what type of housing would TV rent to us while our house is being built?

We will be selling most of our home furnishings, but will have some items to move. Where can we store these items until we take possession of our new home?

I'm hoping that someone on this site has been through this and can offer some advice. Any help will be appreciated.

One option for storing items is using PODs. Like you we sold or donated most of our furniture in CT and then packed what we were moving to FL into a POD. The POD was stored for 6 weeks in CT then transported to Ocala and delivered to our new house as promised. I believe the cost of all that was around $2K in 2008. The little furniture that we did move were items that my wife & I could easily handle.

We rented from a private owner and asked if we could store our things in the garage. When we closed on our home we rented a truck and 2 construction workers to help load and unload for $50. It was a hassel but the last work I have done in a year. You may be able to find the model you want to buy and rent one like it. Good luck.

We're doing things in a similar fashion...are renting for 3 mo in a villa for our dog until we buy. We saw so many great places on our visit we decided to wait until we get there to purchase. I think we're going to sell all but a bedroom and living room set so hoping to use a U-Haul then storage. I'm so very excited! I love an adventure!!! Once the house is empty, we'll put it on the market.

We stayed in Creekside Landing for five nights in April. I wonder how TV rental cost compares to renting from a Villlager.

It is usually much less expensive to rent from a Villager and particularly in the summer. The Villages has a service where they manage rentals from residents but so do people who rent directly. I think TOTV advertises it. A friend rented a home across the street from us when she was looking for a home and considered it reasonable in price.

You can usually get a better deal renting directly from homeowners, many of which include golf carts. There are a couple of sites where these homes are advertised -- thevillages4rent.com is one; forget the name of the other, sorry. Besides the cheaper price, you'll be in a home that is truly part of TV, not just an area where there is no one but people previewing homes. You'll get a much better feel for TV, the area in which you are living, neighborhoods in general.

Garage storage at your rental is a good idea; so is a local storage company. Just don't bring furniture into your rental -- most homeowners would object since it is easy for furniture to scratch walls, cause indentations in carpets, etc.

Whatever you decide, congrats, good luck and have fun hunting!
