We would highly recommend Red Roof Inn's. That's what we primarily use. Never had any issues with size or fees.

When we drove down last year from NJ we stopped at La Quinta. They are 100% dog friendly.

All Drury Inns are very dog friendly--no fees, 2 dogs, no size limit. Free happy hour every weeknight with wine & liquor and a hot dish and salad and other snacks. Many Best Westerns are dog friendly too. Some charge a fee and might have a weight limit--they all vary, so call to be sure.

We also like La Quinta. I believe La Quinta and Drury are pricier than Best Western and RedRoof.

Try this website - Florence, SC Hotel Listings - officialpethotels.com

I selected Florence SC 'cause it is a fair drive from Jersey & it's where we like to call it a day!

The Whitten Inn at Santee, mile marker 98, is reasonable, clean, has a full serve restaurant and a low pet fee.

That's another good point. We like to get a room in a place with room service, as we don't like to leave our pets in the room alone and/or leave the property.

Some have room service from a restaurant in the hotel, some have local places that will deliver to your hotel, and sometimes we have to do takeout, Where one of us gets the food and the other stays with the pets.

The nice thing about Drury is that the happy hour food is enough to make a meal. Every night they have a different hot item--hot dogs, ziti marinara, for instance--and always have salad and baked potatoes.

Last time we stayed at La Quinta, there was no pet fee and free breakfast.

Have used Red Roof and La Quinta. Would do it again. You need to check for locations.

When you cross the state line stop at the Welcome Center and pick up a hotel coupon book. You can get a coupon and see which hotels are pet friendly. Stay away from the Red Roof Inn in Hardeeville S.C. it was hooker central. While I was getting some exercise early in the morning before getting on the road I saw lots of cars come in , filled with what appeared to be "working girls". It made me very uncomfortable.

Be careful of places in Georgia south of Atlanta. Many of them are old and ratty--cigarette butts strewn about, dog poop left on the grass, rooms not so clean. It's why when we're coming from Michigan we split the trip into three days and on the second day stay at Drury or La Quinta around Atlanta, then drive straight through to TV.

Maybe some others know of some clean places in GA south of Atlanta that we've missed, but I decided several years ago we would stop experimenting in that part of GA.
