Want to move to TV
New to this forum. I have been to the Villages numerous times I have a few friends there that love it. I am in a different situation then them. I am a single woman in my late 50’s and every time I go down there I am noticing that the majority of folks are quite a bit older. Don’t know if I will fit in. My friends have significant others so as for me as far as socializing how would it go? Any feed back would be appreciated. Also I heard the Hospitals and doctors are not the greatest.

There is a club here specifically for residents under 60. They have hundreds of members and even have a singles group within the club. You can check out their facebook page or website - South of Sixty Club - Home.

We are happy with our doctors and health care. I've heard some are not. I don't think there is a definitive answer to that question. Good luck in whatever you decide. |

Your observation is probably correct............being a 55 and over community, most will be "a bit older" than someone in their late 50's................simple math and probabilities.
We purchased pre-55. We live South of 466a, which in opinion is probably younger than Northern Villages. No facts, just observation. We have found great people younger than us and older than us. I think the people we run with is probable +/- four or five years of our age. Good Luck. |

Want To Move to The Villages
I moved here 4 years ago in my late fifties and never looked back. There are plenty of things to do here that you should never be bored. If you read the prior posts regarding friendly helpful caring people it is true. I moved from the cold frozen northwestern part of the country, about 2800 miles...just me & the pup. Why? I realized I didn’t want to die there. Whatever time I have left I wanted to be where I dreamed to be - what am I waiting for? I was also nervous about the move at first. But then once I made the decision to move I was excited. I couldn’t wait. I sold my home lightning fast and bought a great home here.
I promise after your move you will ask yourself “Why did I wait so long?” So get packing and join the rest of us in the warm Florida sun with all her beauty here, in the land, as well as the people! You won’t regret it. Last edited by rufflesmom; 01-29-2019 at 01:07 PM. |

Don't be misled by "age grouping".
You will find folks under 65 that are much older in how they live and look. You will find as many that are 70 and 80+ that are much younger in how they live and look. The Villages has a tendency to keep active folks ......ACTIVE, hence for the most part healthier and younger looking and behaving. Forget that number on a piece of paper. |

With regard to health care, since you are well under 65, you MAY be able to use the Villages Health system with your existing insurance, after 65, you MUST be in one of the UHC ADVANTAGE plans. You will need to call Villages Health system to determine if your insurance is accepted. We were in this system for under a year as we had problems getting appointments with specialists, many had a long waiting list. Florida SHINE may be able to help you in getting unbiased information, Google 'Florida SHINE', they have a website, 800 number, and local meetings.

I’ll be retiring in 66 days, the wife is planning to continue her career in Florida, I’ll be 56 and she will be 54 when we move permanently. As other have posted there are several groups for “younger” residents.
We will find something to keep us active. |

There is also a singles club and plenty of singles here. You will not have any trouble meeting new people and other singles. I love my doctor and I've been to the hospital and had a great experience. I understand that the emergency room has some problems, but I usually got to urgent care.

Fact : The average age in the Villages (last census) was 62 so late 50's will fit right in. Also, there are about a dozen singles clubs which helps thin the herd LOL.

I saw the demographics in the Daily Sun recently, it said the average Villager is age 66. I don't think your age is a concern.
Regarding healthcare, well, The Villages is great if you're reasonably healthy. If you have real issues, I'm not so sure, I'm unimpressed with the health care on many levels. |
