Default Water Awareness Program

Just moved into a little piece of heaven here in Citrus Grove and got something in the mail today from "Sumter Water Awareness Program" They are recommending we get our water tested ASAP. The letter states this is a free service. Is this just a way for someone to get in our door and try and sell us on some water purifier system they are peddling?

Quite possibly.

I believe the county tests the water yearly and posts the results. I'll try to find the link and add it to this message. Districtgov.org would be a good starting point.

I believe you can find your drinking water quality reports at Districtgov.org -> Departments -> Utilities -> Private Utility Information

Yes, this is a sales pitch, we had several when we moved in. Wait a while and see how you like the water, it does meet all federal and state requirements. We did not like the amount of chlorine and the hardness. If you are the same, there are many options, from DIY with equipment from the big box stores (total cost $500 to $1000) to very expensive systems costing well over $5000. There have been many threads on this topic, with lots of information and some misinformation. It boils down (no pun intended) to personal choice, and how much you want to spend.

It’s not the county - its a sales pitch (SCAM). It will be free, BUT I guarantee, they will find something and recommend some water system for a few thousand dollars.
You’ll get a TON of sales pitches in the mail - ignore them all.

They have never tested a water sample and decided it was good. Toss it. When we moved in we got lots of these and they even offered us a free gift plus water test.

This is what we have a circular file for.

Either you like the water and do nothing or want a filter and plenty of good choices of where to get one.

we had them come after we had installed a NOVA system....the way the letter looked we thought it was the water department

a young lady arrived tested our water, of course every test failed...it was amazing we were still alive after drinking the water. She told us that we needed to throw out the NOVA system and purchase her system

I just wished that the grandkids had been here to see the testing...they love to watch magic shows and slight of hand tricks

total scam

Beware
High commission sales people extremely high pressure. These sales people work off a 35-45% commission and will lie cheat and steal to get your $$$. Basically if their lips are moving they’re probably not telling the truth. If someone randomly knocks on my door unsolicited that’s when I know they’re desperate and will do anything to get your money.

Default Scam

Thanks everyone, I assumed it was a sales pitch for something expensive and not needed.
