Default You need to know how to dispose of 9 volt batteries!

Today I changed my 3 fire alarm 9 volt batteries. Be sure to watch this video to know how to best dispose of these 9 volt batteries.

I have been told the fire department will change them for you. Just make sure they know how dispose of them too.

Posted on the bulletin boards of each mail station, is information that tells you that you can bring many hazardous items to a drop off point next month.

Please refer to the notice that tells you when, where and what kind of things qualify.

Best Buy has bins in the lobby of their stores that accept all types of batteries for recycling such as phone, computer, and other electronic devices and chargers etc. You can go to the site at this site and select your state from the drop down menu to see what is accepted.

Recycling: Mobile Phone Recycling, Computer Recycling - Best Buy

I think the danger when storing 9v batteries due to the pos and neg on top of the battery in drawer with several metal objects that could contact the pos and neg connections. This allows anything metal to short across the battery, this in turn creates the fire hazard. Same would be when disposing them, no metal contact across the pos and neg shorting them out. As noted on the web simple fix would be to wrap the end with electrical tape . Now the are safe for storage/disposal according to New Hampshire Fire Marshal on his investigation of the house fire.
