Default 9 Worst States To Retire!

9 Worst U.S. States To Retire

I have stated that CT is the worst state to retire in, but this report says I am wrong!

Through convoluted thinking, I consider myself a New Yaawwkkeerr, I am still #1 on the list!

Are you from one of these states?

BTW - Florida is not on the list.

Taxed heavily.

The cost of living is greater than the usual amount.

Weather I find disagreeable would eliminate several of these states. Although high taxes may be objectionable they are not necessarily a deal killer for me (CA and HI). Available quality healthcare is a must as one ages IMHO.

PA is never on these lists since tax consequences for retirees are friendly.

Just get out before you die if you have assets you'd like your family to enjoy. PA inheritance tax is outrageous and many folks don't find that out until it's too late.

I believe the point that was trying to be made was that all of those states have had the same party leadership for the majority of the past 50 years. And it's the party that claims to be for the little people. However this information would make you wonder that they are really for taking as much as possible from the pockets of the people they claim to be for.

Be a very interesting study to look at all 50 states, rank them by party leadership for the past 50 years, cost of living, debt per capita, taxes, crime, and maybe a few other key quality of life measures and compare the results. Should show how party leadership impacts quality of life for the citizens of each state.

And I honestly don't know the answer to the above question for all states. But I do for those 9 if they are truly indicative.

Well, I was not surprised to find my home State of Illinois on the list ranked number nine. Illinois is in terrible fiscal shape. They owe the public pension funds over 100 billion dollars. Although the employees paid their share, the State of Illinois deferred their share year after year until they couldn't "kick the can" down the road any longer.

Sound familiar?

I didn't post thus to be an indictment of political leaders but to see if people from the surveys states mentioned, would find it interesting!

I came from Westchester County in NY and it was considered for many years, the richest county in the USA. It was and still is, a highly taxed community. Most people pay 12K and higher in taxes. One person I know pays 50K a year, but then, he is a millionaire!

My response excluded any political considerations.

BTW, since "$1M ain't what it used to be" my current working definition for a millionaire is a person enjoying $1M gross income per year.

We all gravitate to best and worst scenarios. This list will change like the weather as do all lists. Entertaining but not to be taken serious.

Well it was no surprise to me that Illinois made the list. I have lived in Illinois for 36 years, and the state has never been in such bad fiscal shape. I have no idea what will happen in the next few years here in Illinois, but it's not going to be pretty.

And I was surprised that North Carolina made the list of the 9 worst states to retire. I was under the impression that NC is among the more popular places for retirees from the snow belt to retire to.

Taxes were what drove us to leave Minnesota to Florida when we retired and for us the Minnesota weather wasn't even a factor to consider. In fact my poor wife suffers greatly from the summer heat here.

One pauses with such polls as this. A recent poll has Hawaii as the number one state for quality of life. Guess what chosen as #2 Minnesota and Florida came in at #26

That is easy. Most of Democrat controlled and taxed to death. No wonder they are not attractive to retire in

Lived in Illinois for 8 years; incredibly high taxes and one of the most litigious states in the nation; was a happy day when my wife got her transfer to KC.
