A "yes" supported authorizing the Florida State Legislature to provide an additional homestead property tax exemption on $50,000 of assessed value on property owned by certain public service workers including teachers, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, active duty members of the military and Florida National Guard, and child welfare service employees.

How about just paying people in those specific professions a wage at least sufficient enough to cover their needs. No matter how you structure it someone has to pay for it.

Let's hope it fails, otherwise the rest of us will have a tax increase.

Please don’t put out there that military retirees make $100k or more a year in their pensions. I know of none in such a category. I spent 20 years as a commissioned officer and don’t make half that in my pension. Those in high end homes likely had lucrative second careers.

Like me paying off my neighbors kids college loans.

I have no idea what military retirees make. But I found this online from 8 years ago. Any idea what a regular soldier would make after 20 years, 30 years, and 40 years?

A four-star officer retiring with 40 years of experience would receive a pension of $237,144. Base pay for active-duty top officers is $181,501, according to Navy Lt. Cmdr. Nate Christensen. Housing and other allowances can boost their compensation an additional third.

I agree with this statement. Too many covered that may or may not need it, but we can’t give the ship away to everyone.

I don't know of any military veteran that gets close to $100k a year. I retired as a mid level military member with just over 20 years and get just over a 1/3 of that.

I should have my husband answer this. But that is not anywhere near what a normal officer with 20-30 years of military service makes in retirement. I have no idea where you found that!!!! Is this maybe a “4 star officer” meaning a General with 4 stars? That’s insane what you represented as a normal officer. Please don’t post such crap without doing more research.

he’s not insane that’s the pension it’s about $50 ,000 more then his active duty pay would be , and before people say that’s to much , someone with the same amount of responsibility in private sector would be getting much more and so would the general if he had left years ago
