I did call Century Link and was told "we're working on it", but that didn't give me any hope. the worst thing for telemarketers is to have their time wasted. There is a subscription service that does just that. You answer the call, wait for a person to speak, and then transfer the call to a special number the service supplies and hang up. The service then invokes a speaking robot program that "talks" to the telemarketer with things like yes, u-huh, would you repeat that, etc. It ****es them off and they will blacklist your number. My other suggestion would be to google your # to see what that shows. We found that our # was formerly a restaurant that went out of business in TV. We were getting a lots of calls to order take out and after that died down tons of calls from Google and business finance offers. We finally changed our number and it has been much, much better. Caller IDs are fake so the DoNotCall list is totally useless. There is no 100% solutions until the FCC makes it happen. Contact your congressman.

Two simple rules would fix the problem. First, all phone providers should be required to modify their system so that all customer numbers show up on caller ID, with no way for the caller to block, conceal, or add fake calling numbers. Second, all customers should be able to permanently block future calls for free with a simple click on their phone. Why can't the Federal regulators implement these rules?

It is called lobbying.

Go on your computer to nomorobo and follow the directions. It works!! Click on your phone system then follow the directions. If you have trouble call your provider, they are very helpful. Many of us have done it on landlines. I understand there is a way to also do if for your cell phone altough I haven't tried it yet.

I agree with JoMar. nomorobo works great on land lines and it's free. I understand you can get the same action (one ring and bye, bye) for your cell but there is a charge. Don't know what that is. try'em you'll like'em

Yes...we have used Nomorobo at our prior home & now here in TV.... works great. If you have signed up for the FL do not call list you can file a
Complaint for the calls you received.

What's with all legislators.. Who hacked who. Seems they can find out who called to what when and where we can stop my stupid phone from ringing five times a day with telemarketers.I'm quite sure with today's technology something can be done to stop this going on. You can't leave it up to the phone companies to police themselves. I would like to see a law passed what each individual that has been called by an unsolicited organization has the ability to sue that organization or persons.. I know the answer it's not possible..Yes it is possible that the government would cooperate with the voters and make it possible.. I personally have written to my Congressman And my Sen. with regards to this matter and in either case got any response.

Does this app cost anything?

HULAHIPS, you're right "DO NOT CALL LIST" is a joke, they had ought to be fined or put out of business for false advertising. You know I checked on line about this very question you asked. & believe it or not some high up person from AMAZON told me when you get a phone call & you don't recognize the number, DON'T ANSWER". When you answer it's telling the electronic fake person on the other end or live person that the number they called is a real person. I get very few telemarketer calls because any more I just don't answer. if it's important they'll leave a voice mail. Hope this helps!

Even if you don't answer, the very fact that it is ringing is annoying and distracting.

Turn the ringer off?

carolfry44 05-22-2017 09:50 AM

I just checked out nomorobo, and CenturyLink residential lines do not qualify for their service. Thanks though.

Steve32162 05-23-2017 03:41 AM

Nomorobo doesn't work with traditional wired landlines, only VOIP internet phone service and Apple mobile phones. What I do is turn off the ringer on the phone in my bedroom and don't answer any phone unless I recognize the number. I also assign unique ring tones to my friends and family so I know immediately who's calling.

Unplug your phone if you want to nap-- if its a cell phone turn it off, or use the block the call feature you can block as many as you want

Yes,it is annoying but when you look at your phone & I'm guessing it's a cell phone you got? You got look at it just to make sure it's not a friend or family member when it rings so ringing is what a phone does. All you have to do is & I'm assuming you have names with your friends & family members, so if no name comes up with the #, disconnect. I agree with you having it ring & then answer just to hear a robot talk to you is very annoyong. It's probably not the ringing that's annoying, it's just some robot talking to you about buying something. Don't answer because all that's doing is letting them know this is a real number where there's a real human being. Once they know there's a real person they'll keep calling.

I signed up my land line for the "no call" list--Florida number that I believe was supposed to be effective Oct last year. Honestly, I have had more calls since I did this. We have caller ID and don't answer if we don't know who it is BUT still they start at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 10:00 pm---Got around 5 yesterday and that was a very light day. Have 2 cell phones---get unknown callers on these as well. Don't answer them but it is annoying and really don't think there is any way to stop them.
