RichieB's mother's identity has been stolen !

Got a letter from the IRS stating that her 2011 tax return has been received and is being held for further review.

Thing is -- a return has not been filed !

Whoever is doing this got her correct SocSec number from someplace. I have an idea where they got it from.

I've already notified the IRS and they have flagged her account.

You can never be too vigilant !!

So sorry to hear this RichieB. Be sure to call the credit bureaus and of course alert any credit or debit card companies.

It saddens me that people take advantage of the elderly. We can all think that we would never let it happen to us, but none of us knows how good our minds will be in later years. Thankfully, RichieB's mom has RichieB to help her through this. Best wishes.

In addition to the tax return issue, the other thing that tipped me off was that my mother's name was misspelled, so slight that I glossed over it at first.

This process is going to be a PITA........:yuck:

Just yesterday I started receiving a bunch of messages in my email from job search sites and tumblr .... apparently, someone has registered with these sites and used my email address (either they misspelled their email address or deliberately gave them a 'fake' email which happened to be mine).

Hopefully, after a few days of marking these as spam and deleting them, they will go away. I am reluctant to use the 'unsubscribe' or 'report a message' links on these messages because that often just confirms to them that this is a valid email.

That usually works although I've had a few that won't go away.

To repeat what you said: don't reply by 'unsubscribing' or 'reporting'.
That only verifies you have a valid address.
It's best to save those actions for companies you willingly use and that you have given the address to voluntarily.

If anyone uses TOTV and goes to your name and view public profile, then hits "About Me" it clearly states you are a Massage Therapist in the Villages. So, I assume that is how they got that info. (And Yes, I am currently living in Italy, but it wasn't me).,:a040:

I never thought of that. However, I really think it was some sort of scam or set-up! Are you sure it wasn't you? :p

Scammer

Oops forgot the ones where they want to buy your car and want to send you a cashiers check that is larger than the purchase price and then want you to send the overage back to them.....their check's no good and you send them money only to find out when you deposit the check that you have an insufficient funds or bad check fee. :22yikes:
