That's where I had my first job - - - at the very first Mickey D's built in central OH. And the prices were pretty darned close to those!! They'd expanded the menu to include Big Macs and the fish sandwiches by the time I started working there. Otherwise, the menu was the same!
The place looked exactly like the building in Cisco's post - the big arches, no indoor seating, no drive-thru - people used to sit in their cars and eat. McDonald's used to actually track the number of burgers sold by x number of millions back then. The sign people would stop by occasionally and bump the number on the sign up by another digit or two! That's right I forgot you used to just walk up to the window on the outside and either eat at a table outside or take it with you. There was not any indoor seating, at least not at the one we went to when I was a kid.

I never went to a Mickey D's until I was almost 40 years old. Never even heard of fast food, lived in Manhattan, NY, there were no Mickey D's there. The first fast food place in mid-town Manhattan was Burger King. Went in there once and I was shocked at this kinda food. Never has been my cup of tea.

The first 'Steak n Shake' I ever saw was a drive in. It was built in St. Petersburg, Florida about 1966 and became the St. Pete High hangout. On Friday and Saturday nights they would have at least 3 security guards on duty to direct all the cars driving through the lot.
The first Krystal Hamburger I ever saw was also a drive in. It was in Savannah, Georgia when I was stationed there in 1972. I had never seen a White Castle since I grew up in Florida and Krystal became my favorite and still is to this day. Not to hijack the thread, but in St. Petersburg we had a store called 'Webb City'. It started in the 20's as a drug store and grew to a 4 story dept store with a 40 seat barber shop and a grocery store and a basement cafeteria, a 7 story furniture city with a big record and music department, a sporting goods and auto center with many gas pumps and a boat city. It took up many city blocks, if all the buildings were combined you could probably put 3 or 4 Walmarts inside. Where the Tropicana Field now sits was the Furniture City and parking lot. |

Where in the Bronx?? I don't remember Wetson's but we had a White Castle on Bruckner Blvd and my cousin used to eat 8 of them - and she was the skinniest girl you ever met.

Don't remember the night, but once a week the White Castle near us would have nickel hamburgers.
Dad would bring home a big bag, everybody got stuffed, and Mom got a night off from cooking for the whole gang.
