Interesting article, kind of lengthy & too much to digest all at once. The author should consider presenting it in progressive segments on a Youtube channel.

I get how AI can write something original, but my question is how will AI obliterate humanity?

Is what AI writes original? Or a compilation of already written material, much of which is still under copyright? I think it’s a plagiarism problem more than anything else. Or intellectual property theft, whatever you want to call it.

Just one more way today’s society is dumbing down. Can’t read an analog clock, make change, read cursive writing, don’t know how to speak correctly, punctuate, or spell. We will soon devolve back to cavemen/women. ::22yikes:

sigh. .

Been going on for awhile already. There are ways to catch people using AI to write papers. AI will probably fix that gap by Version 5

What is new is the magnitude of the training data, and huge improvements in computer processing power and storage.

Every year since the 70’s that I was involved with computers, the technology got better, cheaper and faster every year. That is nothing new. A bigger mainframe would come out every year or you would build a cluster of computers (supercomputers) to process more data. Personal computers increased performance every year since the 70’s too.

What that means today, your faster computer can generate inefficient code faster. Faster computers don’t automatically make all the programs running on them more efficient it just means Bad code runs faster.

Looks like there are a few of us that were in the IT area during our working lives
