No reason to do that now that the strike has been averted. They have a tentative agreement and will finish in January, 2025. Current administration got the job done!

No reason to panic. Normally keep a good supply of food and paper products. 2025 will be a great year for return to normalcy for health, security, and economics

No they should not have.

Let the 45,000 sit without a paycheck for a few weeks.

Agree with Dewi. No timing coincidence, they have only agreed to go back to work until January 15. Either way, prices are going up, pick your poison, supply shortages or higher shipping expenses. The consumer will be footing the bill regardless. Big sticking point is automation eliminating jobs. Trying to squash technology to preserve jobs. Oh well, we are all set. Have enough golf balls to last many many rounds. Hit ‘em straight.

Not all are panic buying

We spoke to a guy in Sams Club (NC) that had a cart full of toilet paper. We got to talking to him and turns out he was from a local church buying supplies to send to western NC for thehurricane damaged areas. It's like a war zone out there.
Although, there were plenty of carts with 6 month to a years worth for a family of 10 of Toilet Paper and paper towels. I can't imagine they were all charitable organizations. We came home with none. I guess we'll have to go out into the corn field and get a corn cobb if it gets too bad!

Right now we have normal "health, security, and economics". Crime is down and the stock market is up.

The title of this thread is about panic buying. If panic buying occurs, it doesn't matter where anything is made. Panic buying alone can create a shortage.

Agreed. They hoard things that they don't have to hoard because they're not smart. You can tell how many people have left "critical thinking" inside the classroom in 5th grade, by how many people are emptying the shelves of domestic products during a port strike.

Yes. I just returned from Publix, and half of the toilet paper shelves were empty.

Hint - you can buy toilet paper from Amazon for a lot less money and it is way more convenient.

And you can use a bidet. Does not work perfect but a lot less TP needed. How about taking a quick shower after a #2? Lastly why TP. Most, if not all, made in US. Maybe a former president has convinced a lot of people that it is an import.

As others have said toilet paper is made in the US. It doesn't come through the ports. Sounds like they came to an agreement anyways.

Binge Buying

I'm sure they are not panic buying. It's just the first part of the month and the beginning of Fall and they always buy three or four double-packs of toilet paper at this time of the year.

We were at Walmart doing our usual shopping. Toilet paper was on the list. Not a package to be seen. The whole aisle was empty. We passed some people on the way out with 2-3 packages. We could not believe it. Also several cases of water. We had to go back today for meds pickup and still nothing. I guess they didn’t read the paper about the strike being held off til January!!
