Article in the Villages Daily Sun today 7/31/2019 about blood donations.
Blood banks make plea for more donors | In Today's Daily Sun | thevillagesdailysun.com
Quite an interesting article by Ciara Varone on the front page of The Villages Daily Sun about donating blood. Hope this brings more people in to donate blood, platelets, plasma or red blood cells. I am now up to around 28 gallons. I started in 1985 or so to impress a blonde woman I worked with at Information Access Company (IAC) in Belmont, CA. You would have found IAC's products in just about every good sized library in the US in the 1980s. Was often too busy working while going through law school to donate while living in Minnesota but did one donation in the late 1980s in Minneapolis plus I hate needles or the sight of them going into my arm. But started up quite a bit after moving to the Villages. Most of my donations were made in 2007 and after. |

There was a note on the front page a week or so ago about the blood bus being at the Villages hospital in Spanish Springs. I hadn;t donated in years and made my way over there. The personnel there didnt know about the request that day, and were pretty much overwhelmed (and happy) with the turnout. The whole process took an hour and was painless. I intend to make this a regular thing. Like you, I encourage everyone able to take the time.

I have donated at both One Blood and Life South but now just do it at One Blood so I can keep track of the various measurements they record and which you can see the details of as far back as when you started donating. OneBlood - Home | OneBlood From the One Blood web-site-- Quote:
I can look at these four items going back to 2017. I did a lot of donations over that time period. Last edited by Taltarzac725; 07-31-2019 at 07:47 AM. |

Other than going to the "Bus" and asking, how does one find out if they are okay to donate considering medications taken? Blood thinners, in my case.

They have a list of medications at One Blood and other blood banks which affect if and when you can donate. These are pretty standard. The above link says about blood thinners-- Quote:

Thanks to all donors, your blood products become valuable medicine for patients in surgery, chemotherapy and other life saving/extending medical treatments.
These donations probably save more lives than organ donations and you don't have to croak to do it |

The restrictions donating platelets are more tolerant for aspirin, so that may be another option to checkout.

I miss donating, as I am currently a 'lab rat' for one of the medical studies, the drug being tested is not FDA listed, so no blood donations, but on the bright side I am helping (I hope) with a cure or treatment for Alzheimer's. I was donating several times a year, and donated for decades back up North.
