Indy-Guy:

You are right...I did not pick up on the misleading financial part of the ad. I could never get past that annoying fake grin on Grace before I muted it or changed the channel. I agree with another member's post on here that these kinds of ads should be outlawed.

Ooper 05-26-2009 10:27 PM

Ya know... it wasn't until this year's series of ads that I could understand some of the words that Grace was saying with her "baby-talk" ... had no idea! I also usually turn the station when they run 'em! I wouldn't buy a car from them either!!!

I just paid attention to the commercial, you're right,it is terrible.barf

From my perspective the ads achieve their purpose in the extreme. I never even heard of the place and 18 posters have put the business name in my head.

Why talk about it at all if you don't like their commercial? If you want to do the justice you seem to want, ignore them. If vox populi has a collective change of mind, this thread could be removed and the company denied its desired publicity. You're giving the company exposure in front of the largest residents' group in The Villages.

Just let me know. Your call. Or somebody could ad a poll.

Advertisers are missing the audience. Has anyone noticed how the volume increases on an ad over the show your watching? It is very obnoxious. I now hit mute when ANY ad starts and don't take it off until the show returns. They think they are getting more attention by increasing the volume, but are actually causing the opposite effect. I thought there was some law passed that prevented that from happening. Well it happens on most ads. So I now mute them all. And if somehow I miss it and the volume increases, I note the product and will avoid buying it. So they spend money to get business and end up losing business. There ad companies can't be very bright. MUTE MUTE MUTE, great invention.

tony 05-27-2009 04:26 AM

I'm told the volume doesn't increase really. I don't believe that.

Instead, a broadcast engineer friend of mine said it has to do with audio compression. I didn't understand his explanation.

Is there an engineer type on here could explain that?

If that compress thing is so, it should be regulated out of existence, too. The disruptive volume of some commercials is an embarrassment. Again, why do they do it? Because it works. People get mad, but they get the message and enough of them buy to make it worthwhile. If more of us would deliberately avoid the products, we could take care of the company.

Also, I don't hear this intrusive volume on commercial television, only on DirecTV. We could show our dissatisfaction to the satellite people, too.

I have to agree with Tony - like or dislike the ads (I tend towards "dislike" but am not adamant about it) they certainly got your attention. The name "Bob Dance" and "Grace" are right up there is our mindset now and we all relate them to cars. Geez, I think maybe this idiot actually is getting his money's worth out of his ads!:rant-rave:

babbs455 05-27-2009 05:50 AM

WOW I am glad it is not just me who's skin crawls every other minute when the back to back ads come on..i suppose since Bob has passed away last year that all that money is going to advertising
Hope Gracie has a great college fund saved up and it's not all being spent on tv ads..
hopefully she will not go into car sells..but then again it may bring a whole new generation of GRACE DANCE ad where her kids are yelling.... I told you everybody rides..:yuck:

I wonder how many pedophiles are enjoying looking at Grace and wondering where she lives. Grace is exploited just like JonBenet Ramsey was and see where that got her. In high school I had a friend that was the head majorette. She got her picture taken and the picture appeared in the newspaper. She received a few salaciously sexual letters from some very strange people. Sad but true. And shame on Bob Dance. Putting the dog in the commercial is one thing but putting his pretty granddaughter is another thing all together. Emails to the TV stations airing the aids should generate a change if people threaten not to watch the affiliate stations (i.e., CBA, ABC, etc.) where the ads appear.

Bob Dance got his "Dear John" letter from Chrysler according to the Newspaper but he was quoted as saying he wasn't closing. Would sell "pre-owned" vehicles and concentrate on his Hyunda dealership. Guess the commercials will be around for a while.

Sorry Tony. What your friend told you has only to do with terrestrial radio. Those stations you get on your wireless. We were required by the FCC to have a "modulation monitor". That is an audio compression (and expansion) device that keeps the modulation (audio level) constant from event to event. There are some pretty stiff fines for modulation over 100%.

Enter cable TV and Radio. All bets are off. No modulation monitor here. The audio of the commercials is at least 15% to 20% higher than the programming. It is possible that programming is being delivered at 80% modulation and the ads are 100%, but I don't think so.

I made my living for 40 years airing commercials. Now, I push the mute button when they come on.

swrinfla 05-27-2009 01:26 PM

You know what really bothers me?

In not very many years, Grace will be one of those anorexic but top-heavy bimbos, "selling" cars all by herself, without Daddy or pooch! And the spiel will be just as bad!

Bob Dance Commercials

Recently an Ad Agency spokesperson was asked about the obnoxious commercials. Her reply was we don't care if people like them we want to get people tlking about them. I detest most of the commercials and I was once in the business. They were different then.:sigh:

I TOTALLY agree with everything you said. One thing though, Grace is not his granddaughter, she's his DAUGHTER. How a father could do this to his daughter really escapes me. I switched from Channel 9 to Channel 2 thinking I could avoid these ads, but lo and behold they're EVERYWHERE!!!
