You really didn't expect Boll and Branch to either give you the answer you wanted to hear or actually tell you the truth, did you? Individuals and small businesses buy closeouts, job lots, and also purchase directly from manufacturers, and then there's the secondary market where items are sold and where a product is drop shipped directly from the manufacturer. And you really think Boll and Branch is going to tell you about any of this??? I'm not really sure what you are saying here. What do you mean when you said "you tried eBay," etc. ? "Now I tried Ebay and got zip, zero, zilch. That's it that's the price the person selling has no complaints and they didn't seem to care." |

I made both phone calls with no expectations. I'm thrilled that you revealed the alternative but think I'll stick with Fresh New Hopefully not previously owned sheets. Sorta reminds me of buying a used Tooth Brush because it is cheaper. The good thing is eBay is on the Radar for other items in the future. Hard to believe I'm sure but since Amazon arrived I put eBay on the family do not deal list. Maybe its time to rethink that strategy. |

Brand New vs. Brand New. Duh!

The price I originally quoted from eBay was $140.00 for brand new Boll and Branch king size sheets . . . brand new, not used. How could you possibly equate brand new sheets with a used toothbrush??? And isn't any purchase a person makes "personal?" All listings on eBay are very clear as to the condition of what is being sold. While there are a few different variations of an item being new, the listings are very clear and if you can read English you won't have a problem. In my mind, a set of brand new sheets for $140.00 compared to what the manufacturer is selling them for is a no brainer no matter how you look at it! |

I totally agree with you. I am going to purchase them on EBAY. Manufacturers have closeouts. Could be a discontinued color. I purchase many items on EBAY and they have always been as described. |

I have been on eBay almost since it began. I have thousands of 100% feedbacks so I know what I'm speaking about. While many sellers have a return policy, you are still well protected by eBay's policies for buyers. Good for you; you sound like a smart shopper. Over $100 is better in your pocket than not. Please post a comment as to how you made out when you receive your purchase. I'd be curious to hear how your transaction went. |
It’s odd to me that the EBay description says brand new but then goes on to say they come from a pet free, smoke free home.
Brand New With Tags Boll and Branch 100% Organic Cotton Hemmed Collection Ivory Queen sheet set. From a Smoke and pet free home Boll & Branch’s signature Hemmed Collection Each Hemmed Sheet Set includes: One Queen Flat Sheet One Queen Fitted Sheet Two Standard pillowcases. I buy from EBay all the time but this description put me off a bit. Ali so no cost differences between queen and king size. |

It would appear that you probably don't make purchases on eBay that frequently. If you make purchases on eBay "all the time" you would know that may sellers are individuals and not an actual business. These people make purchases to specifically resell items on eBay. This is commonplace and I would venture to say there probably are more individual sellers of this type than actual businesses. Being aware of this you would already know why a "new" item could come from a smoke and pet free home. |
just a follow up. I bought the organic cotton boll and branch sheets and didn't realize they had also have percale sheets. when they came I washed them and they were incredibly soft, but I prefer a more crisp feel. so I initiated a return for the ones I got on line, and it was no problem returning with no shipping fees. I have since ordered the percale so will see how they are. but anyone who is afraid of getting them and not liking them can rest assured they can return within 30 days no cost. also promo code "RADIO" gets you 25% off.

If you want crispy, cool sheets at a reasonable price, and want to order them separately rather than in a set, see these at the Company Store.
Company Cotton(R) Percale Sheets & Bedding | The Company Store You can buy a set or separately. We use king sheets, a percale duvet cover that doubles as a top sheet (like most hotels), and queen pillowslips. They are sooooooo crispy and cool. I love the plain white. Once I discovered these, I've stopped looking elsewhere. I really don't like soft sheets. I want cool and crisp. |

Thanks for your post. We used these for the first time last night. While very soft, to me, they somehow felt scratchy. We had had The Hotel Collection on our bed (from Macy’s I think), which I love but thought the BB ones would be even better. IMO, not so. I initiated a return as well. I look forward to your “percale” report. |
I wonder what happens to the sheets that someone, anyone sends back to Boll & Branch? Do they burn them? Do they give them to employees? Do they sell them to people with Smoke & Pet Free Houses who then resell them at a reduced price? That sounds like a reasonable assumption although I have no Concrete Proof. Which brings us back to the main point that the OP was asking. They are fantastic, wonderful but as you already know not cheap and not for everyone which is cool. We have also learned that there are alternative ways to purchase them at a much better price if you are inclined to do so.
If this was Let's Make A Deal, Door #1 Boll & Branch Direct, Most Expensive Route. Door#2 eBay at a reduced price for some reason that we can only assume what that reason truly is. Door #3 Garage Sale, Estate Sale, Family Member or Friend Wills Boll & Branch to you. I would pick Door #1 Each and Every Time Monty Hall! I like New, Undoubtedly Brand New. If I did pick Door #3 I would sell them at a reduced rate on eBay. Happy Snoozing! The ones CFrance mentioned sound great to me. CFrance were they from the Manufacturer or eBay? I would buy them but we're all set now the new White Queen Size Set with two Extra Pillowcases Showed up today. Beautiful. I guess we answered the OP the hard way! |

OK, I have to admit it, I'm cracking the heck up at some of the comments...in this thread. :1rotfl:
Especially the ones comparing used sheets...to used toothbrushes. I wonder how many people actually believe, that a hotel buys a new set of sheets for each room...for each new nightly customer? Or have ever stayed overnight at a friend's house and think the friend went out and bought a new set of sheets just for you...then threw them away after you left? Or have had a guest at your own house and you bought a new set of sheets...and threw them out after they left? Here's a newsflash, they have these new-fangled gadgets...called 'washers & dryers.' :D Here's a pic if you've never previously seen one, or either, of them. :ohdear: And what's really cool...is they even make matching sets! :22yikes: These are like mine, that I bought from Costco (I LOVE Costco)...for a really good price. |
Quote:
I agree with everything you said but, but, but ... If I buy "new sheets", I expect to get sheets that no one has ever slept on -- even if they were washed -- I get finicky about certain things. LOL |
Quote:
Although I personally have only used e-bay a few times, the extraordinary lengths they go to in protecting the buyer...is the reason they have grown so large. And yes, I get that we are all sometimes inconsistent...in our 'finickiness.' :D Almost no one gives sleeping on washed used sheets in a hotel or friends place a second thought...yet seem to draw the line at buying them. In this case though, I'm thinking (given the number of sets the buyer is advertising, with no complaints of being 'used') that they are actually...new, as advertised. But hey, it's always our choice to pay a lot more for the exact same thing somewhere else...cause it's the American way. Heck, a lot of retailers became very successful by charging more, for the exact same product elsewhere, thereby making buyers think they're getting something of higher quality. Even though, they are...the exact same thing. The same psychology exists with those who will only buy 'name brands,' even after scientific tests have shown that the lower priced 'house brand'...is either the same or even better. As the perfect example, in the early 90's, when most golf drivers were still persimmon (some were already aluminum) and selling for about $150, Eli Callaway made the 'Big Bertha' driver out of aluminum and had the audacity...to charge more than DOUBLE the average driver price at the time!!! :22yikes: Most of the experts claimed that the price was so high...that it would be a huge flop. Well, guess what...the exact opposite occurred. HOWEVER, there was the prevailing psychology of golfers, that if it cost that much...it must be worth it. Admittedly, us golfers can be a strange bunch in trying to find that 'magic' something that will drop 5+ strokes off of our index...but Eli's strategy proved a point. People will pay a lot more for something, even if it is basically the same as something else, based simply on the thought that since it's more expensive...it must be much better. |

Interestingly timely — this morning on CBS Sunday Morning, there was a segment called “Many Happy Returns.” It was about the liquidation businesses that have been expanded tremendously due to e-commerce and all the returns therein. I bet you can find it with a Google. (I still never have learned to link on my iPad.) |

I found it! Very interesting...thanks! Many Happy Returns (poke here) Quote:

Thank you, ColdNoMore, for providing the link to what I was talking about this morning in my earlier post. (I have had this iPad for years and still keep forgetting to learn how to link on it.) I had just read this thread and was thinking about what BK said so I, too, started wondering about where all those online shopped returns end up. Then, I turned on the television and there was CBS Sunday Morning answering that very question. Weird, huh? I like an interesting little segue in a thread sometimes, meandering a bit, just like real conversation. And now, we know where all that returned stuff goes. Those quickly expanding liquidating businesses are a classic example of “find a niche and fill it.” I loved the part about the wedding dresses for such a deal that women could not resist the bargain, and bought the dress, even long before they had found their mate. Anyway, thanks. |

I loved the part about the wedding dresses also. So much so in fact, I gave serious thought to go to the site and buy a half-dozen or so right now...for my granddaughter's future wedding. Which means the advertising was extremely effective and the urge strong, given the fact that she has yet to even have been born...as all I have currently are 3 grandsons. :1rotfl: |

BE PREPARED! LOL . Isn't that the motto of the boyscouts? |
Now back to discounted Boil & Branch sheets --
Boomer's link to the secondary "returns" market was interesting and reminded me of another "factoid" that may add additional light on this subject. And that is: Factory Outlets. I read an article a few years ago that in essence said that due to strong sales at their Outlets, many retailers had items specifically manufactured for their outlet market. So while some of us thought we were getting a "bargain" we were in fact buying an inferior product! |
Quote:
I've also never found the outlet prices, on average, to be that much less than what you could find in the regular stores...especially when on sale. But I readily admit to not being all that great (or even caring to be) a great shopper, as most of what I've learned has been from my better half...who is a true 'quality bargain finder.' As for me, I never use coupons (I tried giving my CVS coupons away, but found out they only apply to the purchaser and you can't even give them to the nice lady behind you in line ), look for sales in the paper or even usually compare prices...unless it's a 'big ticket' item. I just go into the store where I know they have what I'm looking for...and buy it. And yes, it can cause some marital friction. :D It's interesting to hear however, that now items are being made specifically...for their outlet stores. |
