Default Oil change frequency

Most of us who live in TV are probably driving our cars far fewer miles so the issue is whether to time an oil change to miles vs. time (months)? Recognizing that there are warranty requirements and variations by autos, what schedule do you maintain for oil changes?

I do it once a year on cars we don't drive too often - same for other things with gas engines....generator, pressure washer, etc.

Since my car is still covered by a powertrain waraanty, I am required to do it every 6 months. I probably will continue to change my oil every 6 months since the oil change is also an opportunity to have the mechanic check over the vehicle and make sure it is still in good running condition.

My 2010 Prius is scheduled for 10K miles between oil changes, using 0W-20 synthetic oil.

Thanks for the responses. My question though is more one of time - What if it takes 2 years to get 10,000 miles? Would you change the oil after one year?

Most manufacturers have time or distance recommendations. 6 months or 7,500 miles etc. whichever comes first

Check your owners manual and if you don't drive much at all use the time recommendation (6 months etc.). You should be good to go using that guideline.

We drive a Honda Insight Hybrid. It has 8500 miles on it and have 20% Oil Life left. The car will tell us when it is time for a change.

The Thunderbird is our 2nd car and is driven 500 miles annually and now has 2,600 miles on it.
I do a complete LOF annually by a mechanic who checks the whole car.
It is prob. time for a coolant flush.

Yep.
The reminder said oil change maintenance, but they did the tire rotation and reset the computer. I think they have a software update for the reminders, but we will see what is says at 15K.
