Default Can you disrupt a hurricane by bombing it?

We are all set for Hurricane Irma to get here. While I am sitting around here waiting for Irma to come and go, I started musing. I wondered if a hurricane could be disrupted by using a large enough detonation (while it is over uninhabited areas, of course).

So, I decided to investigate this, and found this article:
Can You Stop a Hurricane by Nuking It?

Guess not, but it gave me something to do for awhile. Thought I would post this to give you something to think about other than filling tubs and putting up plywood.

How about towing an iceberg to cool the water temperature?

Could towing icebergs to hot places solve the world’s water shortages? | Environment | The Guardian

I remember reading about a plan in WW2 to use an iceberg as a floating transport/landing strip to stop UBoats from sinking convoys.

Someone several years ago wanted to drop lots of dish soap in it's path. The dish soap breaks the surface tension of the water causing it to lose strength.

I think most people have heard of seeding the clouds, to help create rain. There were tests done to actually seed hurricanes in hopes of weakening them during the 60's, 70's and 80's. I guess it never actually panned out, you can read about it if you like.

Funny you asked that question. I asked my husband that a few days ago.

NASA says that "during its life cycle a hurricane can expend as much energy as 10,000 nuclear bombs!" And we're just talking about average hurricanes here, not Katrina.

If we start by looking at just the energy generated by the winds, we find that for a typical mature hurricane is equivalent to about half of the total electrical generating capacity on the planet!

Hurricanes are serious ... STAY SAFE
