We used to do a big Turkey dinner, sort of a repeat of Thanksgiving, which we all enjoyed.

But several years ago I decided NOT to the spend all of Christmas day in the kitchen and we did the Buffet idea similar to other posters.

Meatballs cooked in the crock pot, huge cold shrimp,Honey baked Ham, cheese platter, rolls (Costco), fruit salad, Spinach dip and pumpernickel, sliced oranges, Christmas cookies and sweets, and all the other snacky things we could easily serve, graze and have easily clean up.

It was a huge success, so for the past 10 yrs that has been our tradition. Let Mom (Grandmom) enjoy Christmas too, and everyone enjoyed the laid back atmosphere!

Lasagna. Hate to spend the day cooking instead of enjoying family. Lasagna will be made the week before and frozen. Just have to throw a salad together and it's a great meal. Christmas Eve is always the 7 fishes.

No real traditions for Christmas -- just a nice family meal with any friends that happened to drop by. My mother would always try to have goose for Christmas Day (not always available). Always a birthday cake or cookie for Jesus.

Bet you could take 12 cans of Spam and shape it into a baked ham and no one would know the difference. Just stick some cloves in it and baste it with bourbon and brown sugar while it's baking. Man, the pan juices are awesome!

Fresh ham which is pork ( Cuban tradition) cooked very slow for12-13hrs in oven, with congri which is preparedspecial white rice w the black beans cooked together. Also some form of plantains ( either ripe and sweet OR green and crunchy)
It is so delecious that even my Jewish in laws devour this Cuban feast!

Since my birthday is on Christmas, I get a special dinner. I usually have homemade fried chicken, french fries and onion rings. But I usually have it the Saturday before Christmas since I do not think anyone should cook on Christmas day.

On Christmas day we have ham and cheese on rye and shrimp cocktail.

Anything after a pasta appetizer is fine with me!!!! We usually, had ham.

It's all about being with family, and feeling the love.

BTW - I like the idea of a smaller meals, but it never happened in my family. :smiley:

I won't have anything special on Christmas Eve. And I doubt I will have anything all that special on Christmas Day. I'm not a big believer in celebrating holidays with food. I think I might have had lentil soup last year. :icon_hungry: Of course, I just happen to like lentil soup and I put a lot of mushrooms and other goodies in it..

I ended up going to Golden Corral on the day before Thanksgiving and I had some white meat turkey. Normally, I'm a vegan but I made an exception. When I got there they had a whole turkey that was being carved, so I was lucky. I got a good portion and it was moist; it didn't need any gravy. It couldn't have been better. (After that they didn't bring out any more whole turkeys.)

But for Christmas Day I'll be back to veganism.
