My biggest issue is that the gesture did what? helped the dialog on this subject? you can see here and elsewhere it was more polarizing than anything. Something meaningful would be to go into communities and speak to the youth. But that probably isn't as much fun as hosting a golf tournament for Camp Taylor. Big deal you sat down as your big gesture. What does that solve? Offer some solutions. You have a platform to do that--to be a role model. And if people don't like the way police handle things, join the police departments....I hear Dallas and Baton Rouge have openings.

That is a very good point. This man is 28 though. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Kaepernick

Your point on Free Speech is understood and I agree. When I Googled this guy I found a man named Glen Coffee who left the 49er's and went into the Army for many different reasons. This is the kind of person we should concentrate on not some fool. Colin was fascinating to watch during a few games a talented guy for sure. But like so many players before him he was just a flash in the pan. His career is circling the drain now.

I totally agree, I DO NOT WATCH PROFESSIONAL contact SPORTS.
Furthermore, the crooks at Comcast force me to pay a "Regional Sports Fee" of 3.00 per month, huh? what is that??? It is on page 2 if you're wondering.

And there is this about African American mayors.

Can you imagine the outrage if there was a White Mayors Association?

How come we can have a Black Miss America pageant, and not a "White Miss America pageant?:rant-rave:

I have no problem with a Black Mayors Association. A white one would sound like something out of the Jim Crow law South. Cannot just ignore 500 years or so of history.

Colin Kaepernick did something controversial, but it was not un-American - NFL

A different take on Colin Kaepernick.

Quote:

African-American athletes are often asked (unfairly, perhaps) to speak out on social issues and, well, Kaepernick just did. If you don't like what the man did or said, that's your prerogative. But telling him that what he said and did was un-American is to lose sight of what it means to be an American.

In some corners of the globe, Kaepernick might face prison time or worse for publicly "disrespecting" his country. Only the quarterback didn't disrespect the United States. While pointing out its fatal flaws -- socioeconomic and justice systems still tilted against African-Americans after all these years -- Kaepernick unwittingly reminded the world that the U.S. is still a pretty damn good place to live.

Can't have another day of disrespect to Our Country. Can't ignore the feelings of 98% of the citizens who do not think this creep acted in a proper manner. Those who want respect must give or show respect.

Carry on without me. I don't want to be thrown off TOTV forever so I'm done now. My feelings may come out in a less than politically respectful manner.

It is amazing to me how some will always defend anyone that has anti- American and anti-police views. Kaepernick will probably be cut from the roster simply because of diminishing talent. Now when he is cut he will say its revenge and racial because of his political views. That is total BS.

This is the same player that in 2014 was fined $11,000 for calling Chicago Bear Lamarr Houston the N-word. Pretty soon he'll be picketing himself. Hopefully he'll be cut by the 49ers before the season starts and the Canadians will have to put up with his non-sense when he tries to get a job in the CFL for 1/50 the NFL pay.

Allegiance 08-28-2016 07:52 PM

"Kaepernick was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Heidi Russo, a 19-year-old woman who was single and destitute at the time. His birth father, an African American, was out of the picture before he was born.[1][2][3] Russo placed her son for adoption with Rick and Teresa Kaepernick, a white couple "

I bet his biological father is finally proud to be an American.

It does seem like a bad choice to me for this quarterback to make but I am not an African American who has fought hard to get where I am.

The San Francisco 49ers are a team I have rooted for since the 1970s when we lived in Reno, Nevada.

Do you really think that only black people have fought to get where they're at? Seriously? I am a white person who fought damn hard to get where I am and I am pretty positive that I'm not the only person on TOTV (whatever ethnicity they may be), that has fought, clawed and scratched to have gotten to where they are today.

Root for the 49ers and their "oppressed feeling" QB all you want, that is your right, just like it is my right, and the right of a of a lot more people than you, that hope he gets his un-American "oppressed feeling" a** smashed in the turf; it is going to happen.

chuckinca 08-28-2016 09:21 PM

Who's going to smash him to the turf over this issue in the NFL where about 80% or so of the players are "minorities".

This is what bugs me. Advocating violence against someone who is basically condemning violence against minorities. Granted he seems naive in this belief and the way he has taken this stand but it is a very important part of our American Dream to be able to voice our concerns under the US and State Constitutions. In many countries, some of which we have fought wars against partially for how they condemned independent thinking, it is hard to really speak what is in your heart without facing grace consequences. The same kind of authoritarian thinking is creeping into the US discourse and it scares me quite a bit. If you do not like what I say then I will harm you in some way kind of approach. The same kind of crap you found at the start of Nazism and Mussolini's Italy and Stalin's Russia. And there is nothing remotely Christian about it.

chuckinca 08-28-2016 09:57 PM

After his recent comments the Maine Governor is the one that needs to be smashed to the turf :

Quoting Yahoo News:

"In defending himself from accusations of racism and homophobia on Friday, Maine Gov. Paul LePage made yet another explicitly racist comment — arguing that people of color or of Hispanic origin are “the enemy” and suggesting that they should be shot.

LePage said:

A bad guy is a bad guy. I don’t care what color he is. When you go to war, if you know the enemy, the enemy dresses in red and you dress in blue, you shoot at red. … You shoot at the enemy. You try to identify the enemy. And the enemy right now, the overwhelming majority of people coming in are people of color or people of Hispanic origin."

I think people are far off base in saying the outcry is to deny him his constitutional rights. Of course he has the right to say what he said......but the problem in THIS situation is that he is an EMPLOYEE of a business entity, and he is there to perform his friggin' JOB for the employer and customers who pay admission and are t.v. viewers. He can say whatever stupid, ignorant insult he wants--against our "government"--but we don't have to like it or put up with it!!

He condemns the "government" for "oppressing" black people, but WE are the government in that we PAY lots of money for palatial venues for guys like him to play in, and WE pay a fortune for Homeland Security, police, fire and more to protect this ingrate from terrorist attacks such as happened in the stadium in Paris last November. Those stadiums full of people are huge targets, and WE pay to protect that INGRATE. We have a right to say what WE think, about what he said about us and our government, too!

I understand...and it's not just here.

I spent 40 years in an industry that touted fairness and equality with company propaganda, yet when my upper management peers were alone with me (whereby they mistakenly thought I was somehow like them)...their real racism/prejudice came forth. :(

Funny though, not a single one of them wished they had been born black...I wonder why? :ohdear:

The NFL is an employee that has celebrities who are worshiped by many fans. It is good that some of their stars take stands on something that they believe in and that is protected by the Freedom of Speech Clauses in the US and State Constitutions.

Singers, actors, directors, and athletes in other venues often taken stands on things.

And Home Security protect places like football stadiums because of the threat of terrorists attacking them mainly because of the crowds in them not what some football player does by the act of not standing during a National Anthem.

Colin Kaepernich was trying to condemn the murder of some black men by sometimes corrupt and/or racist police. There is still a lot of racism in the US even in the Villages if you look at the Political Board.
