Benj, Chemo is a horrible thing for someone to go through. Women are not typically associated with baldness and it's startles us to see a bald woman. The assumption is that she is going through chemo. I am hoping that she won her battle with that terrible beast cancer. Best wishes to her.
BTW... I didn't expect you, as a married man, to find bald men sexy. ;) ;)

Wikipedia definition - A comb over or combover is a hairstyle worn by bald or balding men in which the hair on one side of the head is grown long and then combed over the bald ...

If I read this correctly it simply means... These men are in denial. They can't accept they are bald or are going all bald! They use the little bit of hair they've got to make themselves feel better, but instead they look terrible.

I see this problem no different than than ladies not accepting life changes. Some ladies walk around like they do to feel better, but instead they look horrible!!!

In my opinion... What may be the best option for a balding man is to stop hiding it and embrace it. Go for the gusto and either get a very tight trim or shave it all off. So men, If you’re thinking of taking the leap and shaving your head..., I assure you, that shaved head look is back and is acceptable for men today. You really will get many good comments and complements on it.

By the way, for the Donald Trump fans.... See the Donald Trump: The Art of the Comb-over

My son is 34 and shaved his head about 14 years ago. He's been shaving it ever since. He was self conscious about his early receding and thinning hair and was convinced girls his age were turned off by that. So wallah, the hair came off and it did so much for his self esteem.

My husband has toyed with the idea of shaving his head but can't get the nerve up just yet. Maybe someday...

I have to agree- comb overs are bad! I guess everyone has to accept (or not accept) aging in their own way but bald is definitely better than the comb over (especially after stepping out on a windy day!)

Bright,

your son was way ahead of his time!! Being such a young guy at the time, didnt people make comments or question him? It just wasant the style 14 years ago, but hey, mabe he started something. :dontknow:

Nonie

It was the time of "skinheads" and that did worry us that he would be thought of as that. But he had the "I don't care" attitude. He was too embarrassed about his early balding.

My sons lovely wavy hair began to thin in his late twenties, he just cut it short ,and each year it gets shorter, He will not go to shaving it totally but it is almost there.

Comb -over is on a par with a toupee...I honestly can't decide which is worse. They are both a bad solution to baldness. IMHO :barf:

There are some women who look really spectacular in very short hair. I met one last week. She had been a career woman all her life and of course had her hair styled and in later years as the grey came in, colored. When she retired she had it cut very short and allowed it to go grey, actually white...it is stunning. :)

suzy my wife of 34 years lost her fight with cancer. It's 3 years now and I'm still destroyed. This site and tv web page help because it gives me a place to keep connected with my new life I dream about. I can't tell you why but I know tv is where I need to be. With the housing market as bad as it is here in Colorado I'm afraid my dream of living in tv might turn into a fantasy. To me bald is just a bad memory.

benj, the market will turn around. It may take longer than any of us want, but it will turn around.
I know the other TOTVr's join me in offering you our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your wife. I hope in time you can heal. In the meantime, I'm glad you are here on TOTV. We may just be your internet buddies now, but in the years to come you may find some wonderful friendships from within our ranks.

I've gone the short route for 10 years when it started to receed. I have coworkers who do the comb over thing and it is a complete denial thing. It was one of the best things I've ever done, no need to dry it and style it etc. Just towel it and go!

Towel? I use a wash cloth!

I agree 100%. It doesn't matter whether you are a man or woman, comb overs just don't do it. I had both an uncle and my older brother that insisted they weren't going bald. I think my brother's comb over at its peek hung to his chest on one side of his head, if he got his head wet. Which he didn't do too often in public. As for me, as soon as I could see a little scalp, I started going to the barber and asked for a # 2 clipper on the sides and # 3 on top, and never looked back. And, oh yes, that wash cloth feels so good on my head. Every day, when I get up, I look in the mirror and say... Lord, your a good looking man, and look at that head of fuzz you have.

Fullrob, my son keeps his hair that way. He calls it "high and tight". Guess those years at Valley Forge Military Academy and College had an effect on him! ;D He loved that school.
