Default Container gardening?

Thinking of growing a few vegetables in containers this Winter. Anybody do this? Any luck with certain vegetables, or am I just wasting my time? I've got a good location with about 6 hours of sunlight.

We've grown pineapples in a large container in our birdcage. We have also grown sugar snap peas and green and wax beans in a large tiered planter. They have all done pretty well as long as we kept up with watering when it doesn't rain.
