Thank you -- so true - this is all about power. The Golden Rule:
He who has the gold makes the rules.

Bill Cosby, once known as America's Dad, is now a convicted felon. Why would Mrs. Cosby stay with him now?

Hope Harvey Weinstein gets his day in court soon.

My guess is that Weinstein still has quite a lot of clout in certain circles. His day of atonement will come.

I really can’t believe that people today are still asking why the women didn’t come forward sooner. Sexual assault victims frequently feel helpless, ashamed, powerless. In the 70’s and even the 80’s, victims were blamed and rarely believed even when the assault was brutal. If you went to a man’s room, you were saying yes no matter how much you fought. And this was the case even if both the aggressor and victim were not famous. Now, imagine the male was well-known, even beloved by the populace, and you were drugged so there was no fight, no bruises .... Who would believe you? It is amazing they even found the courage to speak out when they did. Remember, Cosby was hung by his own words. He admitted under oath that he gave women Quaaludes without their consent or knowledge. Sadly for all of us who had admired him, he was and is a serial rapist. And, even more sadly, he has some pretty good arguments for appeal. There is a chance he will never spend a night in jail (a lot depends on if the judge stays execution of sentencing until the appeal is heard, which frequently occurs).

As to Stormy Daniels, her circumstances are entirely different. There was no assault, just an affair. It is obvious that this is a publicity stunt. She’ll make a lot more than the paltry $130,000 she was paid if she can get the agreement voided. She’ll make millions with interviews, book rights, a reality show or two, a possible movie, internet blogs, etc.

Great post - thank you.

Why would Camille Cosby stay with her husband after this? Can she really believe he is innocent? I think there is a financial motive for her to stay with him. If he does go to jail, will she stand by him? Time will tell.

I doubt guilt or innocence has anything to do with Camille staying with her husband. Ditto her financial situation. She could live quite comfortably on the divorce settlement/alimony. They’ve been together for a very long time. They suffered the loss of their only son. They celebrated daughters’ graduations, marriages, grandchildren. He hasn’t assaulted anyone for a long time. It may not be easy to forgive him and his behavior has to stick in her craw for the rest of her life but he is her husband. If I’m right about her values, she’ll stand by him even if he’s in prison. She’ll visit him at least once a month, probably weekly. She’ll make sure he has whatever comforts she can get him. He’s her husband and that’s that. She’s had the better. Now she’ll endure the worst.

Personally, he would have been out of the door at the first accusation that I believed (and his deposition left no doubt about what kind of man he is) but I’m not Mrs. C. I may very well have done a Bobbitt on him before kicking him out but, again, I’m not Mrs. C.

Redwitch your excellent writings always hit the mark for me.

As to why women will sell their souls for money, I have no idea, so alien to me and my way of thinking, but it has been going on since the beginning of time and will continue. With all the women who are willing to sell sex I cannot understand Cosby's need to drug and rape. As I said in an earlier post, you might just as well have sex with a cadaver. He must be a very disturbed character, but he fooled us all.

How true -- he did fool us all. Wonder if the "nostalgia" TV channels will stop showing reruns of the "The Cosby Show" now. That was a very good, positive show.

Redwitch - always the voice of reason and fairness. Your posts were excellent and spot on.

Madelaine - to your point about the drugging which does seem strange, I think redwitch may have hit the nail on the head with her post regarding that. No struggle from the victim, no bruises, no proof in that regard......I had never thought of that.

I kind of thought that I would separate comedy from life, because so many comedians have horrible lives, and they’re oftentimes people you don’t admire, or they’re not likable. And I didn’t want that to ruin my appreciation of their comedy. But I had to admit, as we discussed it, the more I thought about it, I couldn’t listen to [Cosby’s work] and enjoy it in the same way that I did before, and I was not able to separate it. So the wall kind of caved in. [Seinfeld on an on air conversation with Colbert]

for the entire read google
Jerry Seinfeld says he can no longer enjoy Bill Cosby's work, just a few years after everybody else

Holy Moley Tomwed what did you do? Guess you fixed it, I got a whole page of code when I first saw it.

Yes, thanks, good point - never thought about it like that, which appears to make him even more of a flawed character. He must have got this knowledge or idea from somewhere which makes me think this might have gone back to his college days!!! I suppose you could imagine a group of like minded young people sitting around and just throwing out "stuff".
