It’s nationwide, and it’s not just cream cheese:

Because people are willing to pay for the convenience of not going to Winn-Dixie or Walmart.

Philadelphia doesn’t have any either!

It is possible to make your own cream cheese without a lot of trouble. Go to YouTube and search for videos on how to do this. You need milk and a starter. Starters can be bought online (e.g. Amazon).

The cream cheese you make will be much healthier due to lack of preservatives. But it won't keep for too many days. Imagine - needing to finish cream cheese :)

I make my own yogurt with the same starter (how it is prepared determines if it becomes cream cheese, cottage cheese or yogurt when you start with milk....the same starter works for all, except cottage cheese needs a little vinegar.)

Next thing, you'll have me churning butter!

I bought some this morning at Walmart neighborhood market by Colony.

Butter on a bagel with lox sorry not the way for me to go.

Deep Creek Local 02-19-2022 10:46 PM

When I asked at local grocery, they said it was due to a Kraft strike.

It's a conspiracy aimed at the non-lactose intolerant.🤣🤣🤣

Janet1946 02-20-2022 01:20 AM

Some delis make their own cream cheese that’s actually better than the Philadelphia kind. Probably available closer to Orlando. Good luck!

I got the last container of cream cheese at my Publix in NW Florida a couple of weeks back - they were completely out of all of the flavored varieties and there was one tub of plain that I grabbed. I had no idea that there was a widespread cream cheese shortage.

Gatorade and fruit juice seems to be chronically low stocked, too.

Toasted plain bagel with crunchy peanut butter and jelly. May not be kosher, but better than toaster pastries.

Peanut butter on a bagel is fine, if you simply want peanut butter on a bagel...

I'll even do tuna on a toasted bagel...

But a bagel with a "schmear" is a gift from god...

Even better is a bagel with cream cheese, lox and a slice of tomato.
Of course, a toasted bagel with cream cheese and grape jelly or strawberry preserves is great also.

cream cheese, belly lox, sliced raw red onion, capers. And a quart of water with lemon to rehydrate you after consuming enough salt to preserve a dead horse.

fdpaq0580 02-21-2022 04:33 PM

Having cream cheese makes a difference. Then I choose bagel (toasted), cream cheese and bacon (crispy).
Simple and satisfying.

Nova lox? I'm listening...

A bagel, cream cheese and jelly is great when I go to the diner down the street for eggs...

I worked at two Kosher Deli's in DC when I was in College. I learned to hand slice Lox...

Plus, it's part of my religion. You can find it in the Torah... :icon_wink:

I noticed the other day that Colony Publix had no V-8 juice.

Publix on 466A has plenty of single 8 ounce packages of Philadelphia cream cheese.

RICH1 02-23-2022 12:43 PM

The Cheese Cake Industry has cornered the market

Absolutely perfect! At Brookly Water Bagel it's called a "Williamsburg", except they have tomato and no capers (A situation I have them correct when I order one)

I used to go across the D.C.-MD line all the time to visit the Deli's. Loved to get a hot pastrami with swiss cheese and mustard on Rye and accompanied by a large spear of Kosher dill pickle. There was a place in Wheaton, Md that produced some of the best bagels. I think it was near the Little Tavern hamburger joint(Buy them by the bag).:clap2:

Wow never heard of anyone allergic to tomatoes.

Than again my wife is allergic to almost all vegetables that grow above ground.
