Re: Extreme Makeover on May 4th
I know Habitat for Humanity is big here and they do tremendous work. I'm thinking more along the lines of smaller jobs -- a wheelchair ramp that is suddenly needed, a closet rod that has broken, a toilet that needs fixing. The things that a homeowner who has suddenly become ill or something is unable to repair whether because of physical or financial limitations.
I think I'll do some calling around to local charities to see if something like this exists or what we could do to create it. |
Re: Extreme Makeover on May 4th
For years I have thought about working with Habitat for Humanity after retirement. I would be extremely interested in becoming part of a TV group that would volunteer services to help others.
I have never worked with wood and have no idea how to use any of the equipment but it sounds like fun! I'd be up to giving woodworking a try if someone would be up to teaching me. Keep me posted because although I'm not living there year round perhaps I could help out when I am there. What a great idea Red! |
Re: Extreme Makeover on May 4th
Ladies,
This is a great idea! I have some contacts in Habitat...as Herrick & White donates material to them for their resale stores. Let me call my contacts and see how they can help. If we did small reno's for the needy, just like Red said, we can make at least one person happy. I have alot of ideas for fundraising...this money could be used to buy the materials that are needed. HB is also good at fundraising, so maybe we can have her work with us also. The spirit of giving is amongest us, so let's help someone. |
Re: Extreme Makeover on May 4th
Boy, am I glad you started this thread. This is something I've wanted to do for years. I don't like just giving money -- I never trust that the organization will not get most of it -- but love the idea of doing. I have helped build one home for Habitat in California and it felt good but it wasn't what I was looking for.
I have heard that St. Timothy's has carpenters who do this kind of thing. I have a phone call in to them to see what info is available. Hope they call me back. Joann, thank you so much for offering to help get this started. You have no idea just how good this makes me feel. |

Re: Extreme Makeover on May 4th
Ronda,
Not one of the sponsors was mentioned. I think that under the contract there is a clause that states how much info can be mentioned in the newspapers. Herrick & White took the liberty to have their own articles in the paper. I will scan them for you so that you can read all about them. For Massachusetts's residents, next week is their premier show. |

CVS Pharmacy for paying off their mortgage...I will become a customer as often as I can What a huge task to remove the entire lot's soil of contaminates...I can't even imagine The backyard playhouse...every child's dream Unconditional love...for and from the family and from all the volunteers who either provided services or donated materials I'd love to see follow up shows with those from Extreme Makeover....would be interesting to hear about how this changed their lives and what path they are on now. Wonderful show....absolutely heartwarming |

Re: Extreme Makeover on May 4th
The RI house was amazing and the family ... what can I say ... they are trulyan inspiration. We live close to the house they did in NH and just to see how many people donated their time to help was a joy. I know a lot of people say the show "brings the tears" but just look at the good it does too. Congratulations to everyone that was involved in the show.

Re: Extreme Makeover
I think that I have found a way that we can help people in need.
If someone belongs to a church, they contact the clergy to see if there are any needy people who would benefit from our help. The church should also have either an adult or teenage group that would work with us to accomplish this task. Funds for this endeavor should be raised thru fundraising....( thats where TOTV friends come in). Does this sound like an idea ...better yet, does this sound doable? |
