Facebook is a dangerous place and this is a couple of things people need to be aware of:

Fun FB quizzes are giving out more info about yourself than you are aware of:

Police Warn: Taking Facebook Quizzes Could Get Your Identity Stolen

The heartstring posts, that ask you to respond, like and share are actually "like farming" sites:

So true, unfortunately! Thank you for the reminder.

I have had to block a lot of "friends" after I accepted their requests as they are usually trying to sell porn views or something else I find offensive. They can still see what I post on the Public section as far as I know.

Now...let's be fair. Facebook is also a wonderful place where we can catch up and enjoy the lives of folks we care about all over the country. We can see for ourselves that our friends grandchildren are almost as smart and adorable as our own. We can see that our high school friends are still with us and getting older too. We can see and enjoy the amazing wit and compassion of others. We can share insights and jokes and give each other a needed pat on the back or some thoughts and prayers. We can also turn off access to people who are not making our life any better.

I have really found Facebook extremely useful over the past seven or eight years.

You do have to be very careful on it though.

Yes, I do have an account-IT IS NOT UNDER MY NAME.

FRIENDS ON FACEBOOK-my friends daughter brags that she has over 1,000 friends on Facebook. Not at all happy when I asked how many of them does she know or care who they are.

On surveys, I deliberately do not give REAL information.
My sister was all upset about a website called SPOKEO.
On her they have posted her kids names, what her husband does for a living and even the name of their dog.
I laughed at what they have posted on me-I am listed at well over 100 with a net worth-well BUFFET has to work harder to keep up with the fake me..

Not saying it's bad. I enjoy it as a way to keep in touch with family and friends. I am just saying be careful of these scams.

I think it is good advice to not give away information but it is interesting to just type in your name in the browser and see how much the world already knows about you.

Me too. I follow 5000 people. That is the limit for individuals as far as I know. I have maybe 100 friends who I interact with often and 400 more or so not so much. I have lived a lot of places and Facebook lets me relive many memories from these and even make new ones. Seeing contacts on Facebook connected to the Twin Cities leading up to, during, and after the Superbowl up there made new memories built on the old ones.

I do have to weed my Follow list every so often.

Lost Pets of the Villages is an extremely useful Facebook resource.

Facebook is a great way of keeping up with the grandkids and friends back home.

True. With me it is people from other places I lived as well as neighbors who use it.

I reached eight years on Facebook today. This is that Anniversary.

I never said anyone should stop using FB but just wanted to make people aware of the known scams. Keeping in touch is how it was originally designed to work and then the scammers found a way to exploit it.
