Re: Fads
There was a particular song that stands out that we used when bouncing the ball under our leg - I remember it had something to do with the alphabet...
Didn't have a lot of concrete (grew up in a very rural area) so we had to draw our hopscotch in the dirt...lines got buried alot... This is fun... |

Re: Fads
Bella,
Was it the song about"my name is Anna and I come from Alabama with a car load of apples." Then you would go on to the b's and all thru the alphabet???? Did anyone mention Double dutch jumprope where you use 2 jumpropes going at the same time in opposite directions?

Re: Fads
Nonie, great memory, Kid. But I remembered it too, can't believe that and after the surgery I had... good for me...
Now, does anybody rememberrrrrrr bouncing the spaulding, singing "A my name is Anna and I come from Alabama and with us we bring apples," and thennnnnnn crossing your leg over the ball (there was a name for that action and I can't remember it) ....and as you sang on by the time you got to L's, you had to be able to jump up in the air and double cross your legs over the ball. Gosh, today, I'd fall flat on my tush!! JohnnyM, you've got the game of Pottsy perfect. I remember it all too well. Yes, chalk too expensive, we used stones... ha, ha ha, ha I love this thread!!! Kathie

Re: Fads
My husband said to me today "I wonder ..." and I replied "Don't wander too far, you might get lost". That was one of the stupid high school expressions I used when I was 14; I could not believe it actually came out of my mouth!
Or when someone asked us to do something, we would cleverly reply: "Who was your servant last year?" Anyone else remember the stupid high school expressions they used?

Re: Fads
Yeeeks! I still say Later Gator, especially since we moved here! Here's an old expression used on the guys or snotty girls when they were staring at you "Take a picture, it lasts longer." I'm sure we've all used that one. I'm still with ya on the busbuska's Nonie. On chin or between the lower lip and chin. Lol ;D

Bungalow Bar Ice cream truck, The Good Humor Man, Hear a knock on your door and it's the Dugan man selling doughnuts and cake. The beungalene man (Sp?) for the clothes washer. Bottles of milk at the front door in the am and of course the Italian Ice Cart man scraping the ice into a little pointed cardboard cup. How, oh how did we survive taking swigs from our best friends soda bottle....we never got sick. Johnny
