Congratulations, Joe! Goodbye tension, hello pension. I envy you. I got three years left before the first non-working day for the rest of my life.

Glad you're having a great "First Day", 2B!! Enjoy it!

It is absolutely true that you will feel like you are on vacation for a while - after all we have never known time off except for vacation so this is a whole new world you are entering. Take you time, enjoy the vacation feeling while it lasts, and everytime it dawns on you "this is the real deal" pat yourself on the back for the years of hard work that got you to this point. Just remember it is a process, something you ease your way into and enjoy the experience the entire way!

When you get here, go buy the largest tv you can find. This is the first day of the rest of your life. What are you waiting for?????

My first day of retirement is in a little over 6 weeks. I hope to be on the road, driving down to our new home in TV...Maybe I will see you down there 2B?

I also felt like I was on vacation and would have to go back to work. But after a few weeks, the reality sunk in. Because the first few weeks are so filled with "house" stuff, it took a while before I rediscovered the childlike feeling of "going out to play". Now, that's what I do most days....play with my friends.

Not a clue what I did the first day; it was 11 years ago when I was 48.
Can tell you time has flown and no regrets.
I am looking forward to getting SS at 62 though!

Sorry our Yanks dampened your day ..... Enjoy otherwise!

Shimpy 04-01-2013 05:44 PM

Enjoy, as you have just entered the 4th quarter. Like the rest of us, you are retired Monday thru Friday and then have the weekend off.
Do yourself a favor and not get too relaxed and lazy. Keep physically active and don't let yourself wind down to the point that your health suffers. It's too easy to do nothing physically and let your health go. Don't ask me how I know that.

If you get bored in a few days, you can always call your old boss and hang up when he answers, over and over and over.

Great, isn't it.

Went to sleep last night at 10;30 and woke up at 9:00 AM. I good way to start retirement. Spent time on the puter and I am going to watch my Yankees Opening Day Game at the Sox at 1 PM. Maybe I'll go down tomorrow night and see the new stadium.

Does anyone remeber what they did on their first day of retirement?

Hey 2B: Congrats to you Dude! I am so envious! I am only 56 years old and have 6 years to go.... I have to be content with 3 months in my house in the Villages a year....

Like the guy in the TV commercial I come home from the office every day and say "one more day closer to retirement".....

BTW: Sorry about your Yankees

Joe, I'm so pleased for you. Hey don't knock a huge TV in the bedroom. My 36 inch is very close to the side of the bed AND I can see it without my glasses! lol

My first day of retirement? It involved the hospital, so I'm doubly happy for you that you seem healthy. Keep it that way.

Dave

Congratulations! I worked my last day on a Thursday and the moving van arrived the next day to load us up. As soon as it pulled out we were on our way to our new home in The Villages. It was an exhausting month or more making the transition, but now we're settled and enjoying our new lives in TV doing as much or as little as we feel like doing on a daily basis. It's great!

On my first day of retirement, I went to my former office and brought coffee and donuts for everyone. I strolled in wearing Florida casual about 9:45am. Didn't say a word except that I had to leave to go to my tee time!
