Default Florida Driver's Licenses ...

Just wanted to say that we got our Florida driver's licenses today and were absolutely impressed with the system! We made appointments online for the Wildwood Motor Vehicle Department office (convenient to get to and easy to find), had the opportunity to complete all our paperwork online before showing up, and dealt with a personable and competent clerk who made the process seem so simple. In the same shopping center is the Sumter County Tax Office where we got clear, simple information on what's involved in transferring registration and title of our vehicles from another state to Florida. What a pleasure, especially after a lifetime of dealing with the Motor Vehicle Department in New York State which is often a nightmare and leaves one with a distinct impression that they would prefer that you do all your transactions by mail rather than in person....

Sidney, I second your comments completely. Though a tad confusing as to the order in which you had to do stuff, this introduction to Florida gov't operations was very pleasant. Unfortunately, it makes similar operations in other states suffer greatly by comparison. I think you'll find other gov't functions like license plates, voter registration, and tax stuff to be equally effiicient and amiable.

We got our Florida ONLY drivers licenses in January and kept our California ones too!

Cost only $25.25 each (like the song) and very friendly clerks at the Belleview DMV

Ours are Florida only as well, though they cost only $20 each. Maybe they like New Yorkers better than Californians?... '-)

It had always been a dreaded experience in RI to have to go to the DMV. It was always a full day of torture. Standing in LOOOOOOONNGGGG LINES, (3-4 hours is a long wait in line)only to FINALLY get to the front and the next available clerk ultimately decides to go on a break! Cranky, rude, slow personnel on tax payers payroll with benefits up the ying yang. Thought it would be the same experience here or anywhere.......Amazingly, not the case. We were quite impressed with the friendly, efficient service here in Florida!! Smiling clerks! We were in and out in 10 minutes!! RI should take note! Just one of many, many inefficiencies in highly taxed Rhodys govt. and they wonder why the smallest state is going bankrupt and the people are leaving???!!

I don't believe they have Saturday hours. Here's their website where you can get lots of information: <http://www.flhsmv.gov/>. Good luck!

Probably a hundred New Yorkers in Fla for every Californian, so I'll just leave it at that
