Florida emerges as bright spot in COVID-19 fight
That's the title of a story in today's "thehill.com" site. The COVID-19 stats for the state are quite low per capita, and relative to smaller states. For now, anyway, it looks good for the governor and other state and local leaders.

In the 3 counties where the villages sprawls, out of 855,000 pop there are 666 cases to date and 33 deaths. To put it in perspective, there are 12 deaths PER DAY normally, 8 of those due to accidents.....so your chances of dying from CV19 right now are 3.9 per 100,000, but that's since this whole counting started. Almost 1,000 people have died from other causes....

The other aspect is the opening of businesses.
Yes, many businesses are open at a 25% rate. While the good news is they are open.....they will not be able to survive very long at the 25% revenue rate. Then there are the other businesses that as of this writing have no idea when they will be allowed to open.....salons/barbers/nail shops/gyms any other hands on small businesses. How long can these businesses hang onto existence at the zero revenue rate? Yes the payroll protection act helped save employee paychecks. However, with zero revenue NONE of these businesses other fixed expenses are being covered. The governor said yesterday "...he is working on it..." He does not have an appreciation for being in a zero revenue situation. So the article addresses the new cases/deaths/other Covid-19 metrics. Now let's get some emphasis on the survival of businesses not yet allowed to open and the survival of those at 25%. |
