Default Freestanding ER Proposed for Trailwinds Village

The project will be reviewed by the Wildwood Project Review Committee on April 16 at 10 a.m.

Attached are pages from the agenda which pertain to the project. Unfortunately the engineering sheet is for the landscaping, not the interior of the building.

The applicant is seeking approval for the construction of a stand-alone emergency room consisting of a 11,766 sq. ft. single-story building.

How can you tell that these are plans for an Emergency Room? Doesn't an Emergency Room have to be associated with a hospital?

This is actually the second "ER" . The first is already under construction on the south side of SR 44. They are usually associated with a hospital, but not necessarily the closest one.

This is much needed in the area and will give the hospital a good run for their money.
Hopefully, the competition will be an incentive for them to improve at a number of different levels.

What you say is true. It is also true a similar complex is currently being built just east of Brownwood on State Route 44.

The ER at Brownwood is a joint project between Central Florida health (which owns TVRH and Leesburg Hospital) and the University of Florida Health Shands. Couple that build with the Center for Advanced Healthcare which is a partnership between The Villages and Anchor Health Properties and the southern residents will have access to health care which should relieve some of the pressure on TVRH. I would also suspect that since Leesburg hospital will be closer for those in the south that will also relieve some of the stress on TVRH.

Does a freestanding ER function any differently than an urgent care center? With that size, I assume they at least offer a wider range of testing and diagnostic services.

I learned that this facility will be operated by a national provider, HCA Healthcare.

In this area HCA operates:
Ocala Regional Medical Center, Ocala
West Marion Community Hospital, Ocala
Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness

You actually have a United Healthcare Plan, The Villages does not offer a health plan. The question is will the new ER accept your United Healthcare Plan.

I know it's United Health but it also names TV right on the card.

It refers to The Villages Health System since that is the only plan they accept (with a few exceptions). The Carrier is United Healthcare and is accepted in other Health Care Systems.....you will need to check with Ocala Health (it will be their ER) or your carrier.
