I'd like to know why everyone thinks it's OK for restaurants to pay their employees less than minimum wage.
Why is it that the person who checks you out the grocery store doesn't deserve a tip...they work hard, stand on their feet all day, deal with difficult people, etc. Why is Publix required to pay their employees minimum wage and restaurants not? Everyone supports tipping, but why do restaurants get a free pass on this?? |
If I read it right, the "Pastor" is a black female, is this correct?

When I was young, I too was a waitress. My husband waited tables also - we both needed to pay college tuition. So, tips were important. HOWEVER, we both believe that waiters and waitresses should be paid the minimum wage. This whole deal about tipping so that they make enough to live on - should be on the shoulders of the employer - not the public.
Then what the servers make beyond minimum wage would be directly related to the service they provide. How it got the way it currently is......is beyond me. |

Only a select few here in the villages understands tipping. My son works as a server here, and avg 28%-35% tips every night. God has blessed him the ability to make people laugh, enjoy there dining exp. But there are days (Sun) that he avg 11%. This isnt Canada people where they make $12/hr plus tip. These people make $4.39/hr. They rely on there tips to pay there morgages, power, and other needs. For the poeple, as i saidbefore, guess what? inflation happens to them also. Next time you go out, really look to see how hard they are working, remembering what all there tables need, and if they forget something, well think the last time your forgot something. They are not robots programmed not forget, they are human, like you and me. If the chef gets it wrong, did you still get great service? AND WHEN YOU USE COUPONS, YOU TIP ON THE ORIGINAL AMOUT, NOT AFTER THE COUPON IS APPLIED, BEFORE IT IS

I went to spring training opening day on 2/22/2013 at the Disney Complex in Orlando, it's the home of the Atlanta Braves. The game was between the Braves and the Tigers. The stadium and all the buildings in the sports complex are very nice for a spring training stadium, ESPN and Disney own the place.
I was with a group and on the way in we stopped at the ESPN Grill just outside the stadium, I had a hamburger and a Coke, with tax it came to $13 and change. Once inside the stadium I had a draft beer and it was $8. Back at my seat I got some peanuts from the young girl hawking food in the aisles, I bought a bag of peanuts for $3.50, I told her to keep the change and she said, "we're not allowed to accept tips". I guess at those prices they can afford to pay min wage, however in this situation I think the servers would come out ahead accepting tips. |
