Food shopping

Then I'm not near others, not standing in lines, not waiting for a turn. Not paying by credit card/ debit and putting in my code after every other person who was before me touched the key pads. Touch the key pad after an infected person without gloves is a risk. Shop online, wait for the delivery driver to leave, wait 15 minutes or so before going out to wash your groceries. I also dip all the bottles and sealed packages right into the bucket. This way I have no-one to feel upset with or worry they have the virus. When I'm done with cleaning my food I take a shower, change my clothes and put the clothes I had on right in my washing machine. We can find ways to avoid contact with others. There are times they are out of what you want, you can ask it be exchanged for another brand or ask they make no exchanges. |
I would have cut in front of her, grabbed what I wanted, and moved on.
|
Since the virus I find that people are very pushy and verbally rude. It’s to the point where I dread going into PUBLIX because of it. I’ve been food shopping for over 63 years and never felt this way. I also get irritated with slow people but never express it to them. I also wash all fruits and veggies with vinegar/water.
|
Just wash the fresh fruit and veggies. Dry them and store in plastic baggies with a piece of paper towel in the bag. They will last a long time. We take our grocery bags of fruit and put them directly into the sink when we get home. I also rinse the "triple washed" greens before use. It's not that difficult. I wouldn't want to go without grapes, bananas, oranges and berries if I don't have to. Also, it is advised to get in and out of a store asap. Touching every zucchini is ridiculous.
|
And now for the good news:
"Given the recent plant closures across the U.S. and some in Oregon, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) want to assure Oregonians there is no evidence that human or animal food — or food packaging — is associated with the transmission of COVID-19. Food products do not need to be withdrawn or recalled from the market if someone on the farm or in the processing plant tests positive." |
I would have reached in beside her, grabbed one and moved on. Washed it when I got home. I get it about waiting while she was handling but don’t get wanting to threaten her.
|
IMHO, picking out fresh veggies involves touching them. No big deal. Some people are very picky and take their sweetass time and it irritates me. But that's how things are. But there is NO "NEW NORMAL". It's just the "NEW ABNORMAL" and it is practiced by the lemmings.
Just be thankful that you're not in a prison or nursing home. |

This is more manageable for us because we've switched primarily to grocery delivery and I only go to Publix maybe once a month for a few items. |

Just more whining and complaining. There certainly are more important things then how a women picks her zucchini’s. None of you have any right to tell anyone what to do.
|
Some people are just morons but may be attracting more attention these days. Incurable.

Just came back from Publix. The people not wearing masks were the same ones going the wrong way down the aisles!!

You did exactly the right thing. She's probably one of the many TV people who have pretty much ignored the mandates that were put into place by the Governor.
|
Since this started, I have figured that the chance of my catching the virus from exposure to people, in the supermarket, is slight. The real risk is in picking up something that they touched, coughed on, sneezed on, etc. I always try to pick something from the back of the display.
Also, I always wash my hands after removing the newspaper from the plastic bag. I figure the paper was only handled by a machine, but the bag was touched by several humans. |
Next time your at Aldi's check out the discarded gloves in the bushes slobs

In my opinion, we do have a lot of people that use old age as an excuse to be rude. 1. No, you cannot sit at a traffic light for 15 seconds after it changes to green 2. No, you can't be rude to others 3. No, you can't have the salad for free when it says $3.95 extra with a meal 4. No, you can't have your other diners get a salad for you. You didn't pay for it 5. No, you can't stay in the "passing" lane and drive 30 MPH 6. No, rolling stops (or no stop) are not allowed at stop signs 7. No, you can't drink excessively and drive. (we've been hit three times already) 8. No, you can't tell a police officer you've been driving before he was even born after you get stopped for speeding 9. No, you can't order more dinner rolls and stuff them all in your pocket or purse 10. No, you can't buy folding tables and chairs, use them for your party, then return them As you can see, I love talking to others and sharing what goes on in the Villages Do we have a lot of great people, WE SURE DO. |
A compelling case for "stand your ground....beef"

Road Rage vs Zucchini Rage
One reply was right on. You have no idea how many others handled the zucchini, or squeezed a tomato or lemon, or put back a pepper due to a flaw, or Checked a melon, compared weights of oranges/ grapefruits or dumped half the grapes out of those ridiculously huge prebagged grapes.
You were way out of line. A simple, “ excuse me, I’d just like to grab a zucchini.” Would have been sufficient, then go home and wash it. I hope it was just a bad day for you otherwise see about anti depressants which really curb anger/frustration issues. Seriously, it sounds like road rage only driving a grocery cart instead of a car.. |
When I worked at Food Fair, and then Pantry Pride, we always rotated the freshest produce to the back and bottom of the display. People were too lazy to reach and grabbed the first thing in front of them.

I think everyone is on edge thanks to the confusion the Media...in my opinion has caused. Try to be kind. Read up on the real health benefit of wearing gloves. The grocery store etiquette I don't understand is should the "pets" riding around in carts wear masks and paw coverings? Hum
It's ALL crazy live on and try to smile at someone today🌞🇺🇲🇺🇲 |
You touch it, you buy it.

There is no, and was there never, any grocery store etiquette...can't tell the number of times someone's butt thumped me with a cart, stepped on a foot, reached over, stepped in front of me, stood in line with items on the 10 item express lane, can't figure out how to operate a scanner with an overflowing cart....yada yada yada.....

My wife has expressed the same complaints several times.

Feeling same!
I do observe their poor habits of touching all veggies, fruits, and canned foods, too. What I did is when I got home, I dipped each item in the pail of water with bleach inside the garage, and then bring cleaned items inside the house. Better be safe than nothing!
:bigbow: |
I've been doing the shopping for a bit now due to my wife's health. I would rather let Mike Tyson chew on my ear for an hour than grocery shop.
