So if they've been warned and they choose to not comply............then what?

I meant that people that are not diabetic can eat cake in moderation without having to concern themselves over dire consequences. I also think people should enjoy themselves without thinking of all far reaching consequences unless they already have a known condition. Unfornately or fortunately, you will never stop people from doing what they want to do. No one is that powerful. We can inform them but you can't tell them.

Most people rationalize their behavior. Even Al Capone on the way to jail said, "I only gave the people what they wanted, "women and booze". He neglected to mention he killed several people.

I agree that diabetes is an epidemic in this country and we have many obese people but there a lot of people who don't have to stop and think every time they put something in their mouth, "what are the far reaching implications to my health is this going to do"?

If you choose not to - good for you.

There was a big story in The Wall Street Journal many years ago about a young man who was into fitness training and ran about 10 miles a day. He was going to get married so he wanted to get a complete physical beforehand. His PSA reading was high so he went for a biopsy and found that he had prostate cancer at age 30.

I think you missed the point of my post. My son is a physician and a nutritionist. He eats a BALANCED diet and exercises regularly. Keeping our lifestyle in balance allows us a few guilty pleasures. All things in life need balance. I also doubt that being an athlete and perhaps eating high carbs caused the young man to have prostate cancer. Also those in endurance sports ( and i speak from past experience) consume foods rich in complex carbs and NOT simple carbs.
