Default High of -7; low of -23. Minneapolis 1/29/2019

Minneapolis, MN 10-Day Weather Forecast - The Weather Channel | Weather.com

Going to be very cold in the northern plains next week. Sure am glad I am here in the Villages as I remember what being in those kind of conditions was like having lived in Minneapolis from late Summer 1986 to the end of November 1991.

Other cities of Minnesota and North Dakota will be even colder!

My son is in Minneapolis. Been there for many years. Says they are used to cold weather but these temps are ridiculous.

Born and raised in Minneapolis. Still go back 1-2 times a year, but only in late spring and fall!

I really liked most of the people I met in the Twin Cities while there. Was in Middlebrook Hall on the U of MN campus during my second and third year of law school. Lived on the graduate student floor so it was relatively quiet as dorms go. The other places I lived in Minneapolis were all close to the U of MN campus or on it except for the Summer I spent near Franklin Park? The apartment was a "friend's" and was across the street from a park with a lot of drugs deals and I would sometimes hear gun shots at night. The rent was extremely cheap even if I was scared to venture out after dark and was uncomfortable even walking in the area in the day.

In 1993 when I took a position in a southwestern US location with a company based in the Twin Cities I had to go up there for two or three weeks in February. I stayed in a downtown hotel in Minneapolis and for the first time ever encountered a heated underground parking garage having driveway doors for vehicles to hold the heat inside! I like to walk and so wandered around in the skyways. At one point I thought this is crazy; I am going to bundle up, go outside and walk, at least around the block. I tried but could not breath well enough as the air was so cold.

Today it should get to 75F where I am at present for which I am quite thankful. Cold weather is not for me (it never was).

God bless those we left up North! Especially those who must deal with electric oil dip sticks, unheated garages where the tires square off, etc. Amen!

They do have a lot of tunnels and skyways in the Twin Cities and also on the U of MN campus that help out quite a bit and you learn to wear a lot of layers of clothes in that frigid weather.

I have met a few people here in the Villages that seem to love that very cold weather.

I can understand that at a certain point in life one may want to live among family and/or old friends. One can make new friends but one cannot make new old friends. Too, if a person grows up in a certain area or climate it may be what they prefer, akin to preferring the diet and foods one was raised eating.
