Does anyone really care if you think it's too hot?
There are people who hate the cold, there are people who hate the heat. You're retired now and can live whenever you like. No reasons to complain, go where you like the weather.

Byte1 06-12-2021 10:55 AM

I love it here! I moved to Florida FOR the heat. But, I find it very funny when I see folks down here wearing ear muffs and scarfs plus ski parkas and playing golf during the winter here...........:1rotfl:...:coolsmiley:

Ty...glad you shut him up, if you didn't, I was going to say how rude he was to you.
I hope it cools a little gir you, in addition, your issues keeping you in the heat improve.

Been in NY 3 yrs ago. Outside temps was 103 hot and humid. I checked the weather here in TV and it was 90. Talking to neighbors they said there was a nice breeze. I can get just as hot up there like it is down here. But up there we had no A/C - just a big window fan. At least down here I can stay in my air conditioned house, get into my air conditioned car, go to an air condition grocery store, restaurant or movie. I'll take The Villages over NY any day.

stebooo 06-12-2021 11:15 AM

We bolt north to Minnesota. Hard to get further north. This week it had been over 90 everyday. Car temp 102. So much for bolting north?

I have a friend who has lived in Miami all of her 70+ years who visits me here now and then. A native Floridian, she told me that central Florida is both hotter in the summer and colder in the winter than where she lives on the Atlantic side of south Florida, likely due to the offshore breezes.

So sitting outside under the oak tree at the lake house that has been in the family for as long as I can remember.

Torch Lake is just beautiful with crystal clear water. Will light a fire in the pit, and kick back. It’s 77. Not that I mind some heat, but why waste such a great view. It’s nice to have options for the summer.

New Hampshire & Maine actually have 21 seasons: Spring, mud, black flies, flood, Summer, heat wave, indian summer, Fall, leaf color, early frost, raking, early freeze, Winter, cold, snow, frozen, Nor'Easter, deathly cold, ice dam, can't see over the snow, and finally - freezing rain.

I do not want to live anywhere palm trees won't grow.

And we lived on the opposite coast. It's true that we were lower in the temperature department, but it was much more humid living near the Gulf, than it is up here. Presently, it's 92 degree here in TV land with the humidity at 45%. In Southwest, Florida it's 88 with the humidity at 70%.

tuccillo 06-12-2021 04:19 PM

Relative Humidity (RH), because of it's temperature dependency, is not a particularly useful metric. Dewpoint is a better quantity to look at for discomfort. Currently, our dewpoint is low by summertime standards - about 68. However, don't worry, it will be rise to more typical summertime values of the mid 70's, which is pretty uncomfortable. 88F with 70% RH is a dewpoint in the mid 70s.

YOU LIED TO ME

Soon I'll be at my cabin in the woods on the lake in the mountains with an average temp of 74 degrees. We even have campfires at night.

The good news it that this world-class infrastructure empties out -- good if you like things uncrowded.

May I ask, where is it that you have average 74% summer highs? That's fairly rare, I think, unless you're at 9000' or on the ocean -- something like that.

A very fair question considering how many posters here blow smoke up you know what. Answer zip code 13420. Highest average temp in July coming in at 74.6 degrees. Oh and this infrastructure here in TV does empty out to whatever you equate that to. At my summer home it is 18 miles round trip to get a quart of milk - and I love it.

The Seacost of New England is lovely. Not at all as you described.
We're able to go outdoors and enjoy the Atlantic Ocean, lakes, and beautiful scenery anytime.

Wood burning stove on this morning - 39 degrees F. High temp yesterday was 60 degrees F.

Oh yea .. Let's all go up to Maine and take a dip in the ocean today ! What fun

58 °F.
Today's Maine Beach sea temperature is 58 °F. I'll take the 83 degree year round pool temp

Maine Beach Water Temperature (Sea) and Wetsuit Guide ...Surf Forecast and Surf Reports Worldwide | Surf-forecast.com › Maine-Beach ›

People also ask. What is the water temperature off the coast of Maine?
In the ocean, hypothermia is more of an urgent threat, because water temperatures along Maine's coast often remain between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the summer.

And now for Herkimer County NY:

168 sunny days
On average, there are 168 sunny days per year in Herkimer County. The US average is 205 sunny days. Herkimer County gets some kind of precipitation, on average, 162 days per year. Precipitation is rain, snow, sleet, or hail that falls to the ground.

And, as another poster mentioned, that doesnt include the black fly days..

from the CDC:

Acclimatization is the beneficial physiological adaptations that occur during repeated exposure to a hot environment. These physiological adaptations include:

Increased sweating efficiency (earlier onset of sweating, greater sweat production, and reduced electrolyte loss in sweat).
Stabilization of the circulation.
The ability to perform work with lower core temperature and heart rate.
Increased skin blood flow at a given core temperature.

Or get really old because in your nineties, when your circulation has all but stopped, unbearable heat and humidity is perfect.:cold:

Time for an update - I am depressed today. Rain all day so far and 50 degrees F. On the bright side black fly season is over and we are in a low COVID transmission zone. Must be Utopia in TV now. 105 degree heat index and mask mandates surely keeps the heart pumping. Time for me to get another log for the fire to help keep my heart rate up. A hot toddy followed by Mailbag Monday to break my boredom.

Think you can only count the black fly days when they stopped flying and fall to the ground.

Ha ha!!!! I feel your pain.
We’ve been in Florida 24 years (17 in Tampa) and it took me 20 years to be able to bear Summer.
When we closed in and air conditioned our lanai is the year I started enjoying it, sitting in a/c but feeling like I was outside. :MOJE_whot:
