May I ask, where is it that you have average 74% summer highs? That's fairly rare, I think, unless you're at 9000' or on the ocean -- something like that.
[QUOTE=rustyp;]A very fair question. Answer area code 13420. Highest average temp in July coming in at 74.6 degrees.

Wood burning stove on this morning - 39 degrees F. High temp yesterday was 60 degrees F.

Oh yea .. Let's all go up to Maine and take a dip in the ocean today ! What fun

58 °F.
Today's Maine Beach sea temperature is 58 °F. I'll take the 83 degree year round pool temp

Maine Beach Water Temperature (Sea) and Wetsuit Guide ...Surf Forecast and Surf Reports Worldwide | Surf-forecast.com › Maine-Beach ›

People also ask. What is the water temperature off the coast of Maine?
In the ocean, hypothermia is more of an urgent threat, because water temperatures along Maine's coast often remain between 50 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the summer.

And now for Herkimer County NY:

168 sunny days
On average, there are 168 sunny days per year in Herkimer County. The US average is 205 sunny days. Herkimer County gets some kind of precipitation, on average, 162 days per year. Precipitation is rain, snow, sleet, or hail that falls to the ground.

And, as another poster mentioned, that doesnt include the black fly days..

from the CDC:

Acclimatization is the beneficial physiological adaptations that occur during repeated exposure to a hot environment. These physiological adaptations include:

Increased sweating efficiency (earlier onset of sweating, greater sweat production, and reduced electrolyte loss in sweat).
Stabilization of the circulation.
The ability to perform work with lower core temperature and heart rate.
Increased skin blood flow at a given core temperature.
Or get really old because in your nineties, when your circulation has all but stopped, unbearable heat and humidity is perfect.

Time for an update - I am depressed today. Rain all day so far and 50 degrees F. On the bright side black fly season is over and we are in a low COVID transmission zone. Must be Utopia in TV now. 105 degree heat index and mask mandates surely keeps the heart pumping. Time for me to get another log for the fire to help keep my heart rate up. A hot toddy followed by Mailbag Monday to break my boredom.

Think you can only count the black fly days when they stopped flying and fall to the ground.

Ha ha!!!! I feel your pain.
We’ve been in Florida 24 years (17 in Tampa) and it took me 20 years to be able to bear Summer.
When we closed in and air conditioned our lanai is the year I started enjoying it, sitting in a/c but feeling like I was outside.

Soon I'll be at my cabin in the woods on the lake in the mountains with an average temp of 74 degrees. We even have campfires at night.
And where would that cabin be?
