Hours of venus
First, a disclaimer. These are not my words. The following words came straight from an email from Spaceweather.com. After seeing what happend over at the Big Moon topic, I want you all to know that I take no responsibility for the wording of this announcement:
HOURS OF VENUS: For the rest of the week, Venus is at maximum elongation (greatest apparent distance) from the sun. This means the silvery planet is "up" for more than three hours after sunset. Go outside after dark, face south, and take a long look. Venus is so bright it outshines city lights and even pierces thin clouds. The view through a backyard telescope may surprise you. Check http://spaceweather.com for images and more information. I am not making this up.

Thanks
Thanks for the info Judy. I've always been interested in Astronomy and Astrology. The first book I ever saved up for and bought for myself was 'Understanding the Stars' and I was about 8 years old. I took Astronomy in college and am now taking an Astrology class that's very interesting. Yes! I do believe in Astrology! Fascinating subjects.

Judy,
Thanks for the intellectual, scientific post. Now let's see if the English majors monkey around with this one, too. |

Judy,
Thank you. I promise that I will go outside tonight and look south. I will be freezing. But I will look. I promise. But Judy!!!! The words! The words! iwillresistiwillresistiwillresistiwillresist But Judy, I know you know, darned good and well, that Venus is the Goddess of Love. That's her Roman name. I bet you also know that her Greek name is Aphrodite, as in aphrodisiac. Her son was Eros, as in erotic. Sometimes though he was just Cupid. And do you suspect that the science guy who worded that thing from spaceweather.com might have known that, too? iwillresistiwillresistiwillresistiwillresist Judy. I will resist. I promise. Really. I will. Really. And besides I can always go back over to the "Big Moon" thread. So anyway, thanks for the heads up, once again. I will look. I promise. Boomer |

Ok, let's be straight with me now, what are you talking about that is so funny in the Space Weather alert? I have read that alert a few times and I cannot see it.
Nothing is worse than being the one one at the party who doesn't get the joke. (SpaceWeather.com is a wonderful place, isn't it? Most of my friends can't get along without it. And you think I am kidding, huh?) |

Oh Tony! I wouldn't touch that one with a 10 foot pole!
Boomer, do you want to explain it to Tony? You're so much better with words than I am.

I cannot explain anything to Tony. In the "Big Moon" thread I tried to explain poems and poets and all kinds of useful stuff to him. But he just could not seem to grasp any of it. I think he thinks I am an English major and I think that Tony is askeered of English majors. I keep trying to show him proof that I cannot possibly be one. But I think he is still askeered. I think you would have better luck explaining things to Tony. And, Judy, I am trying to figure out how to explain to you that I forgot, yes completely forgot, to go look at Venus. It was cold and I put it off and then I forgot. When will she be back? Is she out there now? I feel so bad. (Some people would say, "I feel badly." But that ain't right. And I do not know why I had to say that. Now Tony will think that I am an English major.) Boomer |

Just look for the brightest star in the sky right after sunset. She'll be up for a few hours. She was still up (although westish) at 7:30. The sun sets here around 5:50+ now. It's setting later every day. Spring is coming!

And nobody still won't help me through this.
If any of you was my teachers when I was in school I would never learn't nothin'. Then again I had a math teacher like you folks. And an English teacher, who had previously been an English major. |

Actually, "What was your major?" would be a fun topic. Speaking of topics.. by the time we're finished with this one it will be full moon time again.
