Default Household hints

Reheat Pizza

Heat up leftover pizza in a non-stick skillet on top
of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm.
This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I
saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

Easy Deviled Eggs

Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash
till they are all broken up. Add remainder of
ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing
thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture
into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

Expanding Frosting I love this one!

When you buy a container of cake frosting from the
store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You
can double it in size. You get to frost
more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat
less sugar/calories per serving.

Reheating refrigerated bread

To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were
refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of
water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist
and help it reheat faster.

Newspaper weeds away

Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in
your soil. Wet newspapers: put layers around the
plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and
forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some
gardening plastic they will not get through wet
newspapers.

Broken Glass

Use a dry cotton ball to pick up little broken glass
pieces of glass - the fibers catch ones you can't see!

No More Mosquitoes

Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the
mosquitoes away.

Squirrel Away!

To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle
your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper
doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come
near it.

Easier thank you's

When you throw a bridal/baby shower, buy a pack of
thank you cards for the guest of honor. During the
party, pass out the envelopes and have everyone put
their address on one. When the bride/new mom sends the
thank you's, they're all addressed!

MINE!!!!!

If you purchase a new bike for your child, place their
picture inside the handle bar before placing the grips
on. If the bike is stolen and later
recovered, remove the grip and there is your proof who
owns the bike.

Flexible vacuum

To get something out of a heat register or under the
fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift
wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened
to get in narrow openings.

Reducing Static Cling

Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and
you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing
works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose.
Place pin in seam of slacks and - voila - static is
gone.

Measuring Cups

Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring
cup, fill it with hot water. Dump out the hot water,
but don't dry the cup. Next, add your ingredient, such
as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right
out.

Foggy Windshield?

Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and
keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows
fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

Reopening envelope

If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to
include something inside, just place your sealed
envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Voila! It
unseals easily.

Conditioner

Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a
lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs
really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the
conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried
it in your hair...

Good-bye Fruit Flies

To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass
fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of
dishwashing liquid, mix well. You will find those
flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Get Rid of Ants

Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They
eat it, take it "home," & can't digest it so it kills
them. It may take a week or so, esp. if it rains, but
it works & you don't have the worry about pets or
small children being harmed!

Take baby powder to the beach

Keep a small bottle of baby powder in your beach bag.
When you're ready to leave the beach sprinkle yourself
and kids with the powder and the sand will slide right
off your skin.

I love the one about the gift wrap tube. Now I don't have to buy an accessory for my vacuum to reach into the dryer vent! Thanks for sharing these!

Creative Uses for Dryer Sheets

Here is a list of alternate handy uses for fabric softener dryer sheets you might find handy:

A sheet will repel mosquitoes on your patio. Hang a sheet when outdoors during the mosquito season.

Eliminates static electricity from your television and computer screen. Fabric softener sheets are designed to help eliminate static cling, wipe your television and computer screen with a used sheet to keep dust from resettling.

A sheet can be used to dissolve soap scum from shower doors, and the tile walls. Clean the surfaces with a sheet.

A fragranced sheet can be used to freshen the air in your home. Place an individual sheet in a drawer, hang one in the closet, locker at the health club, locker at work or under the seat of your car or truck. Leave several in the RV or camper while it's in storage.

A sewing needle run through a sheet prior to sewing, can prevent the thread from tangling.

A sheet left inside suitcase luggage or travel baggage can prevent musty odors. Place a single sheet inside the empty luggage before storing.

Fabric softener sheets are claimed to clean baked on foods from cooking pots and pans. Place a sheet in a pan, fill with water, let sit overnight. Next morning sponge it clean. The antistatic agent apparently weakens the bond between the stuck on food between the pot or pans surface. The fabric softening agents helps to soften the baked on food.

Placing a sheet at the bottom of the wastebasket, helps eliminate odors found in wastebaskets. Placing an individual sheet at the bottom of a laundry bag or hamper will accomplish the same results.

Collecting pet hairs. Rubbing the area with a sheet will magnetically attract all the loose hairs.

Eliminating static electricity from venetian blinds and window coverings. Wipe the blinds with a sheet is said to prevent dust from resettling.

Wiping up sawdust, on the shop workbench, from drilling or sandpapering is easy. A used sheet will collect sawdust like a tack cloth.

They will take the odor out of books and photo albums that don't get opened too often.

Placing a sheet in your shoes or sneakers overnight, will help to deodorize them and as a result they will smell much better in the AM.

Sam, when I saw the topic heading I wasn't going to click on it. Thought it was going to be about more efficient ways to clean and become a second Martha Stewart.

I have used some of your ideas and they are great. Re: newspapers - definitely no weeds, and a good way to recycle them. I bought the fancy black plastic and just want you to know I have a very healthy crop of weeds. Back to paper for me.

Bare douses weeds with vinegar. Went to one of the gardening club meetings and the presenter uses vinegar also. Says the vinegar works faster and kills some weeds that the chemicals do not.

Ants - I put out whole cloves. Once I put them out where they are they never come back again. I think they do not like the scent.

Reheating refrigerator breads etc - I also was told to keep the power at 10, and they will not turn into bricks.

Thanks for posting the list.

I just learned this about a month ago:

When you are trying to pull out plastic wrap or foil from a box, does the entire roll sometimes come out of the box with it which can be frustrating?

If you would look at each end of those cartons, there is a tab “PUSH IN TAB TO LOCK “…..the roll stays in the box and no more mess or wasted product!

I can't believe all these years I never noticed it.

cleans eyeglasses very well

cleans mirrors, windows and any glass or ornaments

no lint from the sheets help.
