How did the Identification Airforce One begin?
A piece of history is about to be ignored and destroyed ! This is shameful ... This ole bird needs saving !
Please pass along… With ALL the aviation museums we have, THIS plane ought to be in one ! https://www.youtube.com/embed/ehwvZXVKmPU |

Pt-809
I agree that it would be a shame to see it destroyed. It's a significant piece of history. The Smithsonian Air and Space museum owns many aircraft with less significant historical importance. It's a shame they won't restore and display it.
When I joined the Secret Service we had a PT boat to use as the protective escort for the Presidential yacht Sequoia. To my dismay, President Carter sold the Sequoia. The Secret Service boat, PT- 809 (Guardian) was scrapped in 1990. I wish it could have been preserved. |

Mighty big bird. What air museum has that kind of room.
Pima Air Museum has Ike's 1st Connie, used while he was still an active general, and they have it parked outside. At least the Arizona climate isn't metal unfriendly.

It's truly a shame that we destroy, sell, or dismantle so many things that are historically noteworthy. Didn't the Feds recently sell a retired aircraft carrier for $1 to scrap?

The plane should be in the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. It has the other Air Force Ones, plus Stealth fighter jets, spacecraft and each war era of planes plus much more.
One could spend days seeing everything at the USAF Museum. We lost all interest in the Smithsonian one after seeing USAF Museum in Dayton. One of its main advantages is it's at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, where there is land for the gigantic hangars/museum buildings. Dayton has Columbine III which represent the Eisenhower era. Every President has multiple aircraft that were used as Air Force One and I'm sure each has their own historical significance. Uncle has no interest in paying for historical ships or aircraft and they leave that up to private non profits to try and get it done. Columbine II will be restored if we send money, Uncle will not help. An example, there is only one flying B-29 (FIFI) today with a second (Doc) being restored....all done with private donations. When those of us who appreciate history are gone, does anyone thing the next generations will support the legacy?

Anything that the president is riding in has the designation of #1.
Air Force 1 Marine 1 Navy 1 etc. If the president isn't aboard, it refers back to its tail #.

This video tells a deeper story. Our educational system elementary, secondary etc has neglected to keep in the forefront America's history and in fact at the higher levels are changing history. How can young people know of the struggles and sacrifices made by previous generation to preserve our freedoms. How can they even know what those freedoms really are as government continues to assert itself into our private lives?
