I have to disagree with this. When you purchased your home, you surely knew that the property was subject to annual real estate taxes. Therefore, you implicitly agreed to "the contract" by following through with the sale.

The same applies to almost any other tax. You know when you walk into a store that FL imposes a 7% sales tax, so by buying you agree to "the contract" to pay that tax. Just bc you don't like the tax doesn't mean you don't agree to pay it.

This is probably the mechanism DeSantis will use.
He will only eliminate property taxes on residents (i.e. with the homestead exemption).
Non residents will still pay

JUST MY OPINION.

The whole Florida low tax miracle is built upon screwing over tourists and non-residents with high taxes. Why should anything change? Florida can do this because of its location. Move it north a few degrees in latitude and it would be another Mississippi.

Not true because you have no choice. You have to live somewhere. If you rent a place, the taxes are built into the rent. If you want to build a place out of lumber, you cut off your own property somehow that piece of **** taxman still shows up to get his cut. If you wanna live in a tent, you gotta pay taxes on the tent. There are simply nothing you can do to put a roof over your head and not pay tax. Therefore, you are being held hostage into a contract you didn’t sign up for.
