If only the granddaughters get irons, the boys wear wrinkled clothes I guess. I usually buy the iron for the boys, my grandfather was a tailor and he had an iron that had to be warmed up with hot coals. An easy solution now days is steam dry setting on the drier, clothes don’t have sharp ironed edges but they are not wrinkled either.
We could have a White Nights party, looking at art after dark. Last edited by Velvet; 05-27-2019 at 09:13 AM. |

I see those 80's white walking shoes many places. Various colors have been in style for decades. I know they still sell some whites for court shoes locally.
Guess some people keep buying the same old things over and over, reminds them of the past. |

Yes, I still have an iron and a sewing machine.

If you can't patch a hole, replace a button, or hem your own pants and keep at least a decent sewing kit in the house (if not a machine) then someone failed in parenting somewhere along the line. My mom taught us how to sew our own clothes with Simplicity patterns when we were kids in the 60's and 70's, with the sewing machine. In Girl Scouts we had to sew a few things for our badges, by hand, no machine at all. I tried embroidery, was so-so with it. Crocheting is my sister's forte, not mine. Never had the patience for knitting. I don't have a sewing machine of my own and probably wouldn't use it if I did. But it's surprising to think that some people wouldn't even know what to do with a thread and needle if put to task. |
