James Dean dies in car accident - Sep 30, 1955 - HISTORY.com

Only 24 when he died in a car wreck. I wonder how many people remember where they were when they heard this news?

Oh dear, I remember it like it was yesterday My very best friend and I were big fans and we had seen Rebel 9 times and Giant at least as many and were devastated by the news. We cried for days. Fortunately, my life moved on but my girlfriend was a lifelong addicted fan and eventually became the national president of his fan club. That day, she came to my mothers house crying like a baby to tell me the news. It was very sad, he truly was a good actor.

My mother went to High School in Fairmount, IN with James Dean. Can alway remember passing the house he grew up in when we would go to visit my grandparents in Fairmount.

Surprise more young people didn't die in car accidents back then.............less safety features and plenty of horsepower.

Actress Liz Sheridan who played Seinfeld's mother on TV, was James Dean's roomate and lover.

The annual James Dean vintage car show was last weekend in Fairmount Indiana. I have been there and it was very interesting. I have friends and relatives that taken their cars there for years. This car show draws over 4,000 vintage cars every year and has been held annually for 37 years. Link below will give you information on the car show and some history of James Dean.
