What they need is someone with a good voice and a pleasant, almost boring, personality which you can stand day after day. Art Fleming and Alex Trebek were good, but they did not pass a test to obtain the job. All they do is read the script, move the show along, be pleasant during the "interview"; and, during those rare moments of spontaneity which they can edit when necessary. Vana White did not have to win a spelling bee or a pointing contest to obtain her position. Grouch Marks was great on his show but would be terrible on Jeopardy.
I wish I could find some reruns of the early days with Fleming just to compare the questions they asked then with now.
It is nice to be retired and have such complicated problems to solve.
