I’m am retired military and owe everything I am and have to the flag and what it represents. Now try to imagine viewing the American Flag through the eyes of the under privileged of America.

Ex military here and staunch patriot, proud to stand and be counted!

I would like to address the second part of the original post...

A definition of what constitutes being under privileged would be helpful.

Here is one perspective:

Most folks do not want to be measured from the perspective of those looking down or back......no matter what the economic strata.
