Regardless of what he was doing, his family is hurting. This young man had lost a lot in his life in a short time. He and his family have my sympathies. And shame on those of you who felt this was a great opportunity to show how witty you are.

I agree. Age doesn't bring maturity. I hope you guys that find it so funny, never have to deal with these issues in your family.

These kinds of actions by famous dignitaries of wealth and stature cannot be measured on our normal scale of right or wrong or sad or too bad....because they over time have degenerated to a state of they don't care about such things as we do.

What is missing are the success stories of others in similar positions who do love life and family and friends as we all do. These are the role models....unfortunately in our day and morality good news is not very news worthy.

What is sad is the impact on the family. He made his choice for himself. But also for his family. Let us hope there is some worthy role model to show the the right way.

Don't know this poor soul at all. Feel terrible for him and for all who cared about him. I know zero about drugs first hand but I know that before you know it something you think is enjoyable has a hold of you sometimes that thing does you in, booze, drugs, gambling, food, even sex. Anything when it makes your life unmanageable is a bad deal. I'm gonna pray for this man...maybe he was a good guy going thru a rough time. It's a damn shame.

Do either of you think for 1 second that I, or any of the other "witty" posters, view this as anything other than a tragedy for Lamar or his family?
Don't you think I pray for a recovery and for his family to have the strength to deal with this? I'm a bit surprised, both have you have read enough of my posts to hopefully know that I care deeply for anyone who is unfortunate enough to have to deal with these tragedies.
I will again quote John Donne:

I'm sure you are aware that humor is one defense mechanism against dealing with tragedy. I've had 35 years of dealing with tragedy up close and personal. If I didn't develop various defense mechanisms years ago they would have hauled me off to the loony bin.

I'm an avid golfer, I bought a house in TV on a golf course, and before I could move here I lost use of my left arm. Is this a Greek tragedy? Is this irony? Is this just how life goes sometimes. But anyone out there is free to make a joke or post a witticism (Tomwed, I look forward to it). I will laugh with you. I could use it.

So, if anyone found my "witticisms" offensive, I truly apologize. I didn't realize that the subject was off limits.

I dunno. It doesn't seem like a good thing to spend your last waking moments, drugged up in a house of ill repute when you had so many wonderful gifts and opportunities headed your way.


Where I am from, all the people I know wouldn't think about how or why, they would just shake their heads and think...he ended in shame.


I know a lot of people who had ample reason to escape the grim reality of their lives with drugs or other mind numbing substances, but instead they planned for the future and saved and worked hard and made everyone who knew them proud by making the tough choices and forebearing a big thrill.

Gracie, I agree he made some horrific choices but that doesn't alter the tragedy of a talented young man throwing his life away nor the pain those who know and love him are feeling. Some of us are stronger than others. We have our tragedies, but they make us strive to succeed in spite of them. Some are not that lucky. Their tragedies destroy them.

And golfing eagle, I agree that humor is a wonderful defense mechanism but is there need for a defense mechanism when tragedy befalls someone rich and famous? It is rare that these events truly affect us on such a level that we need to defend against our pain. Sorry, but I found many of the comments just mean-spirited. And please accept my sincere sympathies on your arm. As Robert Heinlein said, "TANJIT!" (There ain't no justice in this world.)

Didn't view him as rich and famous, just as a fellow human being. Heck, I really didn't know who he was anyway. No, I wasn't personally all broken up over this event, but that doesn't mean I can't lighten the mood.
Again, you know my posts and I know yours. I challenge you to find 1% of them that you consider "mean spirited". I won't find 1% of yours in that category either.
When I see a post that may seem mean or subject to interpretation or just unclear, I look at who posted it. If it's you, I pretty much know how to take it. Which is why I was somewhat taken aback by the two comments I posted above. But it's OK, no hard feelings at all, that is what an opinion page is all about.
